handgun rest for hunting/bench shooting

I am going to hunt for the first time this year with a revolver. I was wondering about what type of rest everyone uses while hunting?

Also when shooting a revolver off a bench while sighting in a revolver what type of rest does everyone use?

What part of the revolver do you place on the rest?

I am familiar with shooting rifles off of rest and know that putting the barrel of the gun on the rest is a NO NO. Is it the same with a revolver?

If it makes any difference the gun is a SRH 44mag with a 9.5' brl and a ultradot 25mm reddot.

thanks

Rail on a deer stand, horizontal tree limb, MTM shooter's walking stick, homemade tripod, etc. The choices are limited by your imagination.

Creedmore or elbows on knees to sight the .44. Then off hand will be on. Sight from bags and POI can be different. I do not use a rest and all of my deer have been off hand or sitting with elbows on my knees.
When you decide on any rest, sight the gun from it. If you get that off hand shot, don't expect the same POI.

On the bench I have a 2x4 rest that I put the bottom of the frame on.

For offhand style shooting, I like to rest my left forearm against a tree, or do the Elmer Keith sitting with forearms on knees.

I have a rail around my treestand since it is a summit titan "sit and climb". I do not think it is high enough to use as a rest unless deer is CLOSE!. I do not shoot ANYTHING off hand with a rifle or pistol while hunting unless it is VERY VERY close. I was thinking I might get on of those primose trigger sticks and try to figure out how to use it from stand. I was also wondering about difference in POI while shooting different rest.

thanks

I often hunt out of stands with no rail, so what I do if I don't get a shot to my far right that forces an offhand shot, I will cross my left leg over my right knee, plant my left elbow on it and use it to steady my revolver. Works fine.

I shot my pistol yesterday evening at 100 yards off the bench. I shot it with the frame right in front of the trigger guard on the sand bag. Is this the proper way to do it? I shot a 2 5/16" Center to center group at 100 yards. Had 2 @ an inch apart and pulled last one to the left and opened up the group LOL. The 100 yard group was about 2" lower than the 50 yard group. Is that about what is expected in drop?

thanks

That is good shooting and yes, 2" is about right.
Drop will depend on the bullet, boolit. You are good to go from zero to a little over 100 yards.

That's about what they averaged when we last chronographed that load.
