Anyone have any personal experience with the Taurus 45/410 handgun?

Would a guy be better off with a S&W Mountain Gun and some shotshells?

The Taurus judge is a cool concept but I believe that they recommend the 410 shot for very short distance, like close up self protection “in your face stuffâ€.

The 45 Colt or also known as 45 Long Colt is in the 400 foot lbs of energy realm.

Smith and Wesson make a much better revolver IMO. I have both S&W & Taurus.

Personally if I was going to spend $1k on a pistol instead of buying the old model 25 I would purchase a 357 magnum “eight times†from the S&W performance center. The model 327 and the model 627 both have eight round wheels. The 586 L Comp has seven rounds and that’s nice too if you like blue like the mountain pistol.

Then I would be in the 500 foot lbs realm.

Or go heavier to a 44mag //// 44 spl for punks 44mags for animals.

I would recommend the S&W Mountain gun in 44 Mag.

My wife and I have used the Speer shotshells with excellent results on snakes, rabbits, squirrels, grouse, etc.

They are more effective than one might think.

They are very popular here, but I don't know why. Ones I've shot had poor patterns past 3 yards. But to be fair that was with #6 loads. A friend of mine says his 3" shoots the 00 buck loads well, but that his 6" won't. Also niether groups real well with .45 colt. Good snake gun, or five yard PD weapon with buck. I also hear rumors that it will shoot a slug better than the colt rounds.

I follow Rule #62.
