Actually, there are guys on this forum with a whole lot more experience loading the .475 than I do. bfrshooter has been shooting/hunting/reloading his for a long time and has helped me with load development for mine. So far the most accurate has been a 420 grain WFN over 26 grains of 296. We haven't chronographed this load yet in my Ruger but will soon (maybe next weekend). We are also playing with some other bullet weights, so I'll keep you posted. I know that jwp475 has also got a lot of trigger time with the .475 and he should be able to help as well.

Load 14.0 of HS-6; this gives 1029 fps from my FA. This load will do at least 98% of what you need from the revolver.

Kind've makes me wonder why people choose .475 Linebaugh rather than .480 Ruger. How about you?

I chose the 475 as I can load it any way I want, from full tilt to less than 45 Colt levels. The 480 Ruger will not allow that.

It does offer more flexibility than the .480.......

It offers a good bit more flexibility than the .480 Ruger. I can load it up or down as I see the need.

I guess some people spend their time wondering too much. Do you drive your car at the fastest speed it is capable of going all the time?

TBEAR, the 420 grain (at 1350 fps) Buffalo Bore load is a very good one, that penetrates like hell. If you can't reload, I would look no further.

I use the 412 grain Hunter Supply, 420 grain LFN from Cast Performance and the 400 grain Lee and a 400 LBT bullet I cast from a Ballisti-Cast.

I will bet that when you chrono those BB loads wil find them to be faster than advertised. At least that has been my experience.

More nice handguns! You can do a lot worse than Dustin! He obviously does great work!

Jack Huntington is going to build me a .500 JRH on a Redhawk -- this one will be a backup gun and not a primary hunting tool.......

This is marginally off-topic. Several respondents show graphics of Ruger revolvers that have been altered to .475. Does Ruger continue to provide service and parts for these revolvers?

Any work not done by Ruger will void the warranty. That said, anybody who gets their Ruger SA converted to another caliber usually have the WHOLE gun looked at and have parts replaced as necessary.

Naphtali, as 475Guy pointed out, the warranty is voided, but there is nothing that Ruger can do for me that my gunsmith can't!

Welcome back, 475Guy!

Licensed gunsmiths, specifically those recognized as being Ruger conversion specialists, have access to factory parts that Ruger normally restricts to work done at the factory?

Or would these specialists fabricate parts as needed?

Naphtali, they make their own parts in many instances. Jack Huntington made the 5-shot cylinder of my .475 SRH.

Naphtali pretty much if converting it will be a good pistolsmith and there are some real good ones as mentioned if you are thinking of buying a ruger to convert or have one i wouldn't worry about replacement parts as thes smiths take pride in there work and are not gonna let junk go out of shop there reputation for skills is what brings business.I'm not saying if using a local guy it won't be as good as a linebaugh,or huntington or reeder they just have done so many as there guns speak for themselfs and the owners of there custom's are the advertising as far as 475 conversion alot of parts are made by smith as withworth said
