I have a Ruger Redhawk and want to put iron sights on it . I remember reading about a V notch rear sight matched with a new front sight but cannot remember the brand or type of sight that this is called! Help?
Go to the Ruger web site and order up one of their new catalogs, it's free! You will get two catalogs, one with guns and such, one with accessories. In the latter on page 33, you will find they make a set of sights for your Redhawk that almost look like rifle sights. Fourteen dollars and 60 cents is their advertized price, plus a bit for the mailman I'd suspect. I'm thinkin' I'll get me a set someday soon.
These may even be advertized on their site, I didn't spend enough time there to find 'em though.

Muleshoe, I have a set of the V-notch sights. I am about to mount them on my 6 inch GP 100 again. They seemed to be a lot more precise than the wide blades, in my experience. I used them to shoot silhouettes and really liked them. I put my regular sights back on while attempting to shoot practical pistol with my revolver. The rear sight was a little tricky to mount, if I recall correctly. Overall the fit is great and the changeover is pretty easy.
Yankees1, I posted last night indicating that I was about to reinstall my v-notch sights. Indeed, I put them in and took the gun to the range to sight it in today. I had forgotten how much of an improvement they are over the standard blades. At 25 yards, I had been shooting 4-5 inches offhand with the wide blades. Today, I was getting groups half that size; even had a few clover leafs with the upgrade. I highly recommend the V-notch sights. Installation tip - when inserting the rear sight, put the right side in first, push the spring back then put the left side in. Intuitively, it seems that it should go the other way around.
