OK guys, here's the situation. The loads I was shooting weren't home brews, they are Hornady Custom 300 gr. XTP/MAG Hollow Point...Muzzle Velocity: 1650 fps.....50 yrds: 1478 fps....100 yrds: 1328 fps....Lot #000282(that's what the box says. Now, If you all remember, a few months ago I started a thread titled Broken Raging Bull(or something like that). The timing was off so I had to send it back too Taurus. Prior to finding the timing problem I had shot some Winchester 250 gr. Jacketed HP(these are pretty weak only 1300 fps muzzle), some Hornady 300 gr. JHP/XTP 1650 fps., some cowboy .45's, and some hot .45's. The Hornady 300's were just a bit sticky, but nothing to write home about. Since I've gotten the Bull back from Taurus I've shot some cowboy loads(not sticky) and the afore mentioned Hornady's that I have to get out by banging the extractor rod on the shooting bench. So what I'm wondering is what the Hell could have changed between before sending it in and now? Would Taurus have put a different cylinder in it? I bought this gun in like Feb. or March of 2004 I haven't even put more than 300-400 rounds through it.
If it is lead deposites what do you guys use for cleaning?

Wheelgunner,
First off, STOP pounding on the extractor! You can get all kinds of FUBAR doing that. If you have difficult extraction, use a dowel rod and a wooden/rawhide/plastic mallet, and tap them out individually while you hold the cylinder. That puts the least strain on the crane, extractor rod, etc.
A very close examination of the brass should tell you why extraction is sticky. If you can't see the rub marks where the brass was binding, a ten-thousandths micrometer should be able to tell you where the brass has interference. It may be that your chambers just need a bit of polishing.
I won't try & diagnose your problem without being there, but there is no telling what happened at the Taurus repair facility.
Failing all else, I would perservere in having them correct the problem. If necessary, send them a few cylinders full of the offending ammo along with the gun, when you return it. I've heard of spotty QC, and hit-or-miss repair service from them, at more than one site. Usually though, everything does eventually get worked out. Good Luck, and Hang In There!

The other possibility that no one has mentioned is that only one or two of the cylinders have this problem. Hence you should try the dowel rod method and see if the problem is localized. You could then smooth out that one chamber with emery cloth.

It is a very fine polish and will not remove metal to speak of. About like using crocus cloth or finer. Great stuff!

Well, after giving it a good cleaning I went out scouting deer and shot ten rounds through the Bull. Things were still pretty sticky but I was able to push the shells out with my hand instead of beating the Hell out of the gun.
I did find out that I've got one chamber hanging up a whole lot more than the others. At worst I can load just 4 rounds and leave the bad one empty for deer season. If I send the gun in now I won't see it till Christmass. I'll give it another good cleaning and see what happens.

Zero,

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is Flitz? Is that an abbrasive fluid or just a polish?

bfr,

I was looking at another thread on here about shooting 45s in 454 chambered guns. Do you think that could be part of my problem?
