I am a sucker for stainless free market handguns. So when I friend offered a stainless raging bull 5 inch to me in 454 I could not pass it up. As I already had 3 boxes and a few loose rounds of factory 454. After shooting up the loose rounds. I will be loading some what less impressive rounds. Of course they are less powerful then my 460S@W. But I decide a long time ago that a 300gr bullet at 1500fps. Is all about what I want to shoot in a reasonable sized handgun. I much prefer even something 200fps less in much nicer. So just for general goofing off a 250gr LSWC about 1100 well be just right. If I would decide to carry it for serious work. A 300gr at 1300fps will most likely be do the trick. I plan to take it to my HR218 qualification just for grins.

I have always taken a shine to revolvers, especially 4-5 inch versions. Someone posted a Taurus for sale locally and I kept going back and looking at it. Never did buy it, but I liked the looks of it. I’ll bet yours will be a nice thumper with anything from 900-1100 fps. Sounds like a nice find! Shoot Safe, Mike NRA Endowment Member

Just got done loading some 225gr LSWC sized at 453 I found at a estate sale. Cost me about a penny each have several hundred of them. 6grs of Red dot for about 800fps. A very mild fun load to shoot.

One you don't buy through a dealer. Person to person sales are legal in most states. Free market firearm's are the check valve against confiscation.

Congrats. I keep telling myself I'm going to start looking for a compensator "blank" for my S&W 460V (I HATE the muzzle blast on that gun) and load some moderate velocity rounds for deer hunting one of these years. Come to think of it, I've said the same about a bunch of hunting caliber revolvers I own but don't use.....

I've had a 5" .454 Raging Bull for many years. A great, compact carry gun. I've killed about a dozen deer with it, mostly with Speer 260 gr. HPs. They do very well on deer with 32.0 gr. WW296 in my gun. Alaska Bullet Works in Juneau makes a really good 265 gr. FP that's a super penetrator. A double shoulder shot with this has been excellent on deer. Larry Rogers
