I was just on Rugers website and they are offering the #1 in .475 Linebaugh/.480 Ruger and also one in .460 S&W. Kind of neat especially for the Indiana residents.

One of my colleague has a Puma in .454 Casull and it's a nice piece. I haven't gotten the opportunity to shoot it yet, but when I do, I will report back.......

The Marlin is not really a strong gun. I suppose there might be problems with certain calibers.

i thought the marlin was supposed to be stout. That might be why they dropped the 475 idea then

With today's metalurgy, they are a lot stronger than we may think.

The larger the caliber the weaker they are. Even the 45-70 is middle of the road. The .450 has stronger brass that helps. I would say the .475 is just too big.
They are good rifles but have a limit. Some revolvers are a lot stronger.

Puma produced a lever rifle in .480 and I haven't heard about any strength issues.

the 92 is plenty strong and in all reality so is the 94 marlin. Ive got a custom made 94 in 475. I dont load it to the max though as the problem with them and the 92s too is that the barrel gets pretty thin where the threads are. Another problem with the marlin is that even opened up as much as possible its a tad on the short side and alot of longer bullets wont feed in it. FOr the the most part it is limited to the same bullets a FA will allow. So about what i end up with is a 475 that is shooting 480 level loads but does it at a bit less pressure. Nice thing is that out of a 18 inch barrel the 480 loads will kick buy on a full power 475 in a handgun and thats alot of power in a small light package. Marlin could do it on there longer 336 action but if a guy has to use the longer and heavier action you might as well just buy a 4570.

I've a matching Puma for my Casull. Its stainsless and surprisingly well fitted. Yes, could be better I suppose. I've not the chance to thoroughly wring it out yet but the prelim is promising. Tappin did a review on it that was positive. The Win '92 pattern has a smoothness to it and is very very strong for such a small package ~ they were avail in 480 also.

Yrs ago the old shooters.com ran a survey 'what would you like the manufacturers to make?' My wish at that time was a '92 in the casull for a short/handy powerful high capacity carbine preferrably in stainsless. So, when it happened, I just had to buy it ~ ~ But keep wondering about one in 480 Ruger

Unfortunately, Puma no longer offers the .454 or the .480 lever gun.......

Looks like they're made it Italy (vs Brazil) now ~ perhaps not ramped up to those calibers for production yet?

Don't know what the situation is, but they've unfortunately dropped them from production.
