TBEAR -- I talked to Jack yesterday and he is just waiting for a reason to make some cylinders (he makes them in batches), and I am getting ready to send him my SRH as well for the same conversion. Since it may take a while, I would start there. JMHO.

Even thought I am happy with the Ruger Super Redhawk 454 (Super Streethawk) Jack Huntington did. I am a little put off on his response time.

I asked him over 2 years ago if he could cut the compensator off my 4 inch S&W 500 Mag. I just got a reply 2 weeks ago telling me he could do it. I gave up on having him do the job over a year ago due to lack of response, and had a custom end cap made for it by someone else.

Communication to me is very important. That is why I have someone else doing all my custom work now.

I am not trying to start a pissing contest, but just giving my actual experience.

That's odd, I have found him to be MUCH faster than many other smiths. He delivered my .475 on time and he is the only smith I know who will spend an hour or more on the phone with you if need be. He's much more accessible than other smiths I've dealt with. He's not turning out a production line, nor does he want that kind of a business. In fact, he doesn't advertise and all his work is word of mouth -- again, by choice. Plus, he is a much better smith than most and I have shot his guns side by side with some of the best (Bowen, Clements, etc), and they have nothing over him. I find your conclusions very curious.

I was looking for the e-mail I just received, but I must of deleted it. It had my original date on it and the day he replied.

But like I said, I am very happy with the work on my Super Streethawk he did. But I figured he was to busy for my little job, and it cost him more of my business.

So I am in no way knocking his work.

I would hold nothing against him. He must have thousands of jobs to do. There is no way for any gunsmith to catch up.
I have a gunsmith that is a good friend. I waited 2 years for a gun to be blued and had to get it to cold blue. He also has health problems. I asked how many guns he needs to work on yet and he said "over 200."

In my business, I've had missed voicemails, emails and the little guys clearing the answering machine before I got a message. Some folks get mad and go somewhere else, some realize it's just gonna happen and follow up on their communication. bfr is right; I do the best I can for my clients, but there is only so much best to go around.

First of all, Jack doesn't use e-mail. He doesn't like it and instead wants to talk to customers or prospective customers as it more personal. If you want to talk to him, you have to call him at 530/268-6877. No job is too small and he recently did some small jobs on a couple of my brother-in-law's guns and he got them back within two weeks. He would have done the same for you. Just pick up the phone.........

I understand what you are saying, but I own my own business, and if I don't get back to people right away, they go else where and rightly so.

I was not expecting him to jump through hoops, but if he is to busy, don't take on more work. Also, this was 2 years ago I asked for this, and just now got a response. I just find it comical he even replied to my e-mail that was over 2 years old.

HE DOESN'T USE E-MAIL. Jack is not the one who answered your e-mail it may have been someone who works in support of Jack, but it was absolutely not Jack. While he understands your plight, you should understand his and e-mail is not a format that he uses and never has. Had you called, he would have provided you with an immediate response -- PERIOD.

Whitworth, I am not going to get into a pissing contest with you. I wish I would of saved the e-mail. I looked in my old e-mails and recently deleted, but I cleared them all up already.

Just so you know, I did call and got no answer, but like I said, it was 2 years ago. What is so hard for you to understand.

Sorry I said something about your gunsmith...LET IT GO.......... horse

Like I said before -- and I'm fairly articulate, he does not use e-mail -- never has, and I suspect never will. That said, you got a reply from one of his associates and not Jack. Had you called him, you would have probably gotten what you had wanted. If you tried once and no one answered, why didn't you try again later? This is logical to me.

I won't get into a pissing contest with you, SO LET IT GO, REDHAWK1, LET IT GO!

Yes we did. I have turned the horses out to pasture; they do not need to return to this thread.

I do not personally like the double action Ruger revolvers. I do however, very much like the .38-40 John Linebaugh built for me. I have no doubt that Dustin would do an excellent job as well.

I realize that I should just leave well enough alone as I usually do, but I believe I have a legitamate question, and this goes for anyone opperating a business, not just Jack Huntington. If you don't use email, why list an email address on your business web page? If someone lists an email address for me to contact them, I don't think it is out of line to expect that they in fact use that address. It would be pretty offputting to customers if he listed a phone number, but refused to answer it.

Jeremy, what do you do if you don't get a response via e-mail? I call. It's simple. Often times I send e-mails just to find out that the address is no longer valid. Again, I call. He's too busy a man to spend time online.

Maybe I was inarticulate, or maybe you missed my point entirely, I'm not sure which. My point is that if you have no intention of corresponding via email, why give out an address at all?

No, you were quite clear, but I still think that if you do not get a response within a reasonable ammount of time, you pick up the phone. I think that he was talked into it, and he has personally never used it (his e-mail).

I agree 100%.
Poor business practices if you ask me. If he has no intention of using e-mail, simple remove it from the site.

Whitworth, why do you defend Jack Huntington so much? Kind of creepy in my opinion.

Redhawk, I'm going to decline telling you what I really think of your comment. He is twice the gunsmith of most of them peddling their wares out there, and he is a friend of mine. Is that clear, Redhawk1? I knew you couldn't stay away from this post.

He does not maintain that site, and he will be removing the address until he has someone to stay on top of it. Meantime, he is building guns, which is what he does.

Whitworth I don't defend my wife like you have Jack Huntington. Big Grin Talking about some thing as trivial as what we are talking about, sending (E-mails). I deal with a lot of people, and I wound never go out on a limb and defend someone as you have. Again talking about, if or if not they would send (E-mails).

I wish I would of kept the e-mail I received so I could show you. That would of ended this BS.

And no need to get your panties in a bunch, I was just stating my observation and view.

I actually find you amusing any more Whitworth. Have a nice day and a great weekend, I know I will. Wink

You would never go out on a limb for anyone, that is what separates me from you. As a Marine, I place a lot of value in loyalty -- Semper Fidelis (look it up). I take offense to your commentary. But, you missed the point as no one was asking for your opinion on Jack or anyone else for that matter. What will end the BS is if you would exercise more self-control and not feel the compulsion to always turn threads into negative events.

Oh, and I don't wear panties, so I can't get them into a bunch.

Okay, everyone's made their point now. Let's move along to something else; meaning there is absolutely no point in replying anymore to this thread unless it is to discuss the merits of a particular conversion and not the gunsmith making the conversion.

If anyone has a question regarding how a particular gunsmith runs his business; I suggest you take it up with that person in private. I can't say as to how others operate their business, so no need in the rhetorical questions.
