Has anyone tried it on this model? I currently have a 4" version, and will probably be acquiring an 8" version shortly.

How does it shoot right now?

Hard to say, really -- It seems to shoot OK, but I'm having difficulty getting used to the revolver trying to torque out of my hand. I certainly wouldn't hunt w. it at the moment -- not that I ever intended to w. a 4" version.

Leave it alone. It will do all you want with more accuracy then you are capable of.
Practice and get used to the gun. The Taylor throat will not change anything and could make it worse.

Hey 'Lifter,

Call me a weenie if you want, but I don't think I'd be interested in shooting anymore from your 4 incher. That was as close as I have ever been to eating a revolver! Of course I could blame it on the fact that I am used to a lose grip on the plow handle of my Freedom mod 83Smiler! Now if you acquire an 8 incher that could be interesting. I am lookin forward to it as a matter of fact.

How about getting a comp for it?
Peter.

I agree, I was told by a gunsmith to not get my S&W 500 mag maxi throated. He said the same thing you just did about making things worst.

Peter, the S&W 4 inch comes with 2 comp's. One for jacketed bullets and one for cast.
The only S&W 500 Mag that don't come with comp's are the 2 1/2 inch and John Ross PC model.

Personally my 4 inch has a custom end cap. I did not like either of the comp's and don't use one.

Recoil is not bad at all, and I did not really notice any difference in felt recoil.

I'd like to try it w. the solid end cap, but I understand that S&W no longer sells it. (AFAIK, to get one for the 500, you had to buy one for the 460 and modify it.)

I agree the recoil didn't seem that bad, just the "squirmyness" of it

That is what I had done to my 500 Mag.
