how much can the largest type of bull elk weigh, on the hoof?

Never really weighed any of mine, and Have never shot a huge one. 5x6 was my largest.
I would think on the hoof a huge one might be between 700-900lbs. Guy looking over my shoulder right now claims they get as big as 1100lbs, but I have never heard of one that big.And I have hunted them for 25 years. Just never really payed much attention to wieght I geuss.

Like people, there's big 'uns and smaller ones. Figure 800+ lbs. for a Rocky Mountain bull elk. 375 JDJ and .475 Linebaugh size.

Montana Madness, your numbers are close to what I've seen in my shop. I have seen some 100-1200 pound guys but they were all game farm animals.

The elk is a large animal of the artiodactyle ungulate order, possessing an even number of toes on each foot, similar to those of camels, goats and cattle. It is a ruminant species, with a four-chambered stomach, and feeds on grasses, plants, leaves and bark. During the summer, elk eat almost constantly, consuming between 4 and 7 kg (10 to 15 lb) daily.[14] In North America, males are called bulls, and females are called cows. In Asia, stag and hind, respectively, are sometimes used instead.
