I have a glock 10mm model 20. I have it dialed in with winchester 175gr silvertip ammunition. I intend to use it as a secondary gun for deer hunting. If I get a chance to shoot a deer with it I might, but it will be in an ideal situation. Like under 30 yards and broadside behind the shoulder shot.

What are your thoughts on this?

thanks

Should work fine if placed properly.

I agrre it should do the trick. I tested the win Silvertip load in both the 357 mag and the 175 grain in the 41 mag and was not impressed withe penetration nor the expansion

I have a Kimber 10MM and have shot the 175gr silvertip through it. It was fair on penetration but my hand loaded 180gr and 200gr XTPs worked much better. I have heard good things about the Gold Dots in the 10mm but haven't had a chance to try them out. I mostly hand load for this caliber.

The 175 gr slivertip is really made for defensive shooting against 2 legged varmints. One can expect around 14 inchs of penetration and decent expansion.

It should work on a side to side lung shot. If one needs more penetration a hevier tougher bullet is needed.

I love my M20 w/ factory 6" barrel for hunting. Drop in a 3.5 pound connector with a NY1 trigger spring for a consistant smooth trigger pull < makes it easier to get that surprise break of the shot.

I've had good luck with WIN 175 Silvertip, but swithed over to Corbon's 180gr bonded core (pricey) and 180gr XTP Double Tap (cheap, accurate, & hot)

Keep your whitetail shots under 100yds & black bear shots under 50yds.

I've shot a mulie buck with a hot stepping .40S&W using 155 grain Lazer Cast pills at about 45-55 yards. It did take another shot to finish the job as the first one was a little too far back on a broadside shot. But it impressed me that I could hit him in the main body section at that range!!!!!!

I would practice doing some shooting at 100 yards to see how well your trigger control is. If you yank it at all you will miss by 10 yards or more. Then in the field those shots that you do decide to take, based on your own criteria will seem all the more doable.

A lot of the back country horseback riders here in the West are moving towards the 10mm. With 16 rounds of 180 grain hot stuff there is no need to carry a reload and the initial weight of the pistol is fairly lightweight. Accuracy with most Glocks is usually very good as well.

I've given some thought to a 10mm but seem to approach just about the same performance out of a Sig 226 and a Sig 2340 using Power Pistol and reaching for some high velocity rounds with accuracy attached.

224TTH,

TO be honest, I personally think you would be better off using some of the 180gr Gold Dot ammo.

I have shot just about every weight and every available bullet on the market through my Javelina, and the 180's get the job done. The GD's are wonderful hunting bullets and accurate as well. If you handload your even in better shape. Stoked up with some AA-9 they get around 1350 from my 7" barrel and will rock a feral hogs world.

A few years back a buddy of mine took a small buck at about 10 yards with that load out of a Delta Elite. One shot and DRT!
