I keep feeling the pull from the the new Blackhawks in this chambering. Usual Ruger issues? Cylinder mouth, bore mismatch? Tight throat where barrel is screwed in? Just wondering what to expect.

Probably, but get one anyway, you will almost certainly like it and it may turn into a project. There, convinced myself that I need one too.

Pennfly, after reading Jeff Quinn's review, I just bought one off Gunbroker for $428 plus shipping ...

They are dandy little guns. Great choice.

I bought one with the 5-1/2 inch barrel about a year ago. I haven't had a chance to shoot it very much, but it seems to like the RCBS 245 gr. SWC sized to .430 over 8.0 grains of Power Pistol. Velocity is about 950 fps. So far I like it.

I bought one of the Bisleys after reading Seyfried's write up in these forums. I did the firelapping of the bore and loaded up (3) different unique loads w/ 245 lead Keith bullets---6.5, 7.5 and 8.5g. The trigger needs work, but it shoots well and is fun. I also bought a non Bisley and do not like it nearly as much. The plow handle is too short, even though my hands are not that large AND the trigger in it really sucks.

Is Ruger consistantly lax in quality control, or is this the best they can do for the money?

Curious. How did they shoot before firelapping?

I have 3. A bisley and one with the regular blackhawk grip. I also have an original flat top old model 357 that Jim Stroh converted to 44sp for me years ago. The new rugers shoot as good as the custom gun. All I shoot is "Skeeter's load".

There is a good article on this revolver, with some reloading data, in "Handloader" number 260, June, 2009. It is by Brian Pearce.

I tried a new load in one of my Special's and it showed a lot of promise. I used the 250 gr Keith (429421) from Western Bullet over 9 gr of HS-6 in Starline brass with the CCI-300. I do believe with me doing a better job holding it that it is an easy 1 1/2" load and perhaps better with someone with steadier hands.

I've owned 2 of the New Model Flattops, but I'm down to just 1 now:

I like it a lot, particularly the size of the frame and the XR3 gripframe. I'm hoping Lipsey's also arranges for some 5 1/2" stainless Bisley Flattops
