I have been thinking of using my Ruger MkII Govt. to kill tree rats, and like the look and price of Solo's red dot mount. Has anyone used one of these sights to do this sort of thing? I suppose the smallest dot would be appropriate, but don't have any experience with these. Please give any advice born from experience (I too have read tons of magazine articles) Thanks, Mike.

I supppose a Leupold 2x pistol scope would afford a finer aiming point. What is the best (cleanest looking, best designed) mount for such a scope? Can you get the Ruger top mount that uses Ruger rings? (seen on the slab sided competition model) Bottom line, what is the best way to mount a scope on a Ruger MkII pistol (22lr)? Mike.

Mike in SC: I put a Redfield R-D sight atop a Ruger Competition using a weaver style base. Really like it for plinking and informal indoor range target shooting. My wife took to it right away also. I don't know if this particular sight is still available, but others similar to it are. If features a selection of a couple different aiming sights; circles/dots, crosshairs, etc. I would not hesitate to use it for small game hunting.
