A shooting buddy and I went to the range yesterday and got serious about sighting-in my .500 S&W handgun. We used 440 grain CPB cast bullets at about 1400 fps. Also shot some Hornady factory loaded 350 grain JHP's rated at 1900 fps. I fired this five-shot group from standing, unsupported at a 18 yards. First two shots were double action, then I went to single action for the last three. I am impressed with the accuracy. Any recommendations on a red-dot sight or scope for hunting? I would like to use it for deer, elk and black bear while hunting in timber... Regards, Guy

i also have the s&w 500but i am loadfing the 440's to 1650fps accuracy is great.

if i were to use a red dot i would use a lepould but a nice lepould pistol scope would be better

i am leaving mine with iron sights as i plan on using no farther than say 50-60 yards for hogs and deer if i bring it to africa i might put a lepould pistole scope on it.

Here's some cartridges for comparison. Far left is a Remington factory loaded .45-70 w/405 gr bullet, next is my handloaded .500 S&W w/440 grain CPB, next is Hornady factory loaded .500 S&W w/350 grain JHP, far right is American Eagle (Federal) .44 mag w/240 JHP.
