OK guys I got to Sportsman Warehouse in Missoula yesterday. I tried the BFR and the SRH for feel. And sadly I was right on my last thread about getting a bigger hunting revolver. The BFR is a hell of a nice gun, but the single actions just don't fit me right. grip seem odd in my hand and my thumb just doen't reach the hammer. I have to just about let go of the grip to pull the hammer.
The Redhawk feels like it was made for me. Just feels like an extention of my arm.
So if I go with the 480 ruger. Will I really be loosing that much over the 475 Linbaugh? I do hand load so I'm thinking I could load it pretty hot.
What do you guys think of the 480?

Great choice!! All you are really giving up is the recoil. I too have trouble getting cozy with single action revolvers and just love my SRHs. So, I can empathize. A 400 - 420 grain bullet at 1,200 fps will kill anything that walks. You don't need velocity, you need accuracy. Wise choice -- jump on it MM!

It's my favorite big game handgun. I'd recomend changing the factory grip to the hogue. Other then that, a great revolver.

I've shot plenty of 475 and 500 linebaughs, and personally I can't handle the recoil. To me the 480 is perfection w/ 400's @ 1200 fps. It is shootable, and if I need more power I'll go with a rifle, not more velocity in a handgun.

The 480 can be loaded up with bullets loaded long, but you might find in the DA frame the recoil becomes unmanagable. Pushing a 400 gr slug 1350-1400 fps might not sound like that much more than 1200 fps, but it's a signifigant jump in recoil.

Good answers. I have large hands and love the single actions. But if the .480 fits you better, you are not giving up a single thing! It is a fine caliber.
Don't let Whitworth fool you, he likes my single actions too. And I like his double actions. I just can't hit at long range offhand with the double action as good as I can with the single action. I am talking 100 yd's or more. Gallon jugs of water or pop cans.
How the gun fits you and balances is important.

You made a wise choice. thumb

Like previously mentioned, install a new set of grips and you are all set to begin enjoying your new toy.

Yup, get some Hogue grips. This picture shows the factory grips all the way on the right, the Hogue wrap-arounds in the middle and the best grips for $20.00 the Hogue Tamers on the left. Get the Tamers and never look back.....

I like the .480 Ruger Redhawk. Really well built hand gun in my opinion. Just be carefull with the factory Hornady loads. Hit a deer a little high in the shoulder last year. Shoulder roast was rendered unusable. Devastating power, and more accurate than I can shoot it. Good Luck.

Hey Thanks guys!
I have not bought it yet, but plan to asap. What to sell, what to sell?
I really like the feel of it in my hand, and it doesn't hurt it's almost $200 less than the BFR.
