This how low can you go in 44 mag has made me wright this, I will never shoot 44 spls in my 44 mag again, the ring it puts in front of the case and the lead it burns off at the start of the rifling is just a pain in the rear. I will reload 44 mags down as low as I can go but will not use the shorter cases any more. Will I ever get that ring out as I dont think its burned in from just 25 rounds is it ?

The are some solutions available that might work but I'll bet the best way to remove your ring would be a Lewis Lead Remover from Brownells. If your going to shoot lead bullets in your 44, your going to get lead residue. This works great lead in the barrel, it should work in the cylinder

Yeah lead is all ways going to get in the throat, I'll deal with that but man the short cases alow to much gas to pass around the bullet before it gets there and really makes a mess. I made a electric foul out last night and got out tons of crap, thats when I seen the real bad spot in that area, I'll just wear out a brush today and not shot them any more, any one want a box of 44 S&W brass ?

I've shot 44 Specials in my mags for years and never have I experienced any problems. Same with 38/357 and 41 Special/Mag. I clean all my guns after each range session so I guess I don't get the buildup. However, I've got guns that never leadup and I've got some that have deposits after the first cylinder full.

Usually, lead buildup in the throat is a sign of several things not being right, but the big culprit usually is...the slug is not sized properly to the bore thereby not allowing it to upset and form a tight gas seal. Some slugs are too soft (or too hard) for the intended velocity and that can result in barrel leading. Rough barrels is another problem which causes leading. Barrel lapping can take care of this in short order.

Lead bullets will most times leave residue you can see, copper plated bullets leave copper fouling you can't see. One is just as bad as the other for accuracy. Bottom line...clean your guns after using them. Just part of the fun.

Short44, I can always use 44 Special Brass.

After getting all of it out I looked in the best I could with a pin light and yes the its still rough, been less than 50 rounds run through this BBL. Thats why I wanted to 99.9% get it clean so I can firelap the bore.

I have stopped shooting the special cases in the magnum chambers for the most part. I can either load down the magnums, or go to a smaller cartridge if less will get the job done. Need something with no recoil and little noise, get a .22LR.

My experience has been the same as jefats. I've not had any trouble as long as the cast bullets fit the barrel and the hardness of the lead matches the speed you shoot it out at.

One of the main things to shooting good cast loads is a well broken in gun. My guns usually take a year or so of shooting to smooth the bore out and lots of shooting will polish the cylinder and make for a better trigger pull.

And I always clean my guns after a shooting session. The biggerst problem I have is mixing my cast bullets shooting with any jkt bullet loads I might want to test. I usually try to shoot the cast loads first.

Well this barrel only has 40 rounds down it and all are cast. Thats why I have cleaned it so well and will need to lap it now.

If you shoot a couple hundred jkt bullets through that barrel, you'll smooth out that barrel quite a bit. Lead bullets don't smooth out the barrel much. I've never lapped a barrel but have pumped some JB in a brand new barrel.

I've never felt the need to use Spls in my Blackhawkes Rather just load back the Mag cases to the Spls data.I also have only ever used cast As I feel their "kinder" on a barrel than Jacketed. If I feel the need to use full power loads ,I use gas checked Bullets

all times wasted wot's not spent shootin

Down-load to 4 grains of Bullseye in my usual choice, using 240 grain cast bullets. My next choice is 205 grain bullets with 9.0 grains of Unique. The case volume difference is inconsequental, just add a half grain to the .44 Special data and go on. The .44 Magnum cases are cheaper than .44 Special cases so I use the full length case for the chamber. I've always felt less jump for the bullet was best, but really can't prove it accuracy-wise.

I had similar 'rings' shooting .44 Specials in all four of my .44 mags
I cleared all this up with the purchase of a .44 Special revolver. Smiler
I can really hit with Specials. And I cast the Lee 300 grn. Keith and push em out w/8-9 grains of Unique.

Google a place called "FRFrog"; He has a list of homemade cleaning solutions. I just tried his 50/50 solution of 3% hydrogen peroxid and white wine vineger for a 5.5 inch Ruger Bisley 45 COLT that leaded so badly I actually just gave up after 3 days of cleaning. I used every thing too- lead wipes.commercial lead remover , copper brillo pad wrapped over wire brush(extremely tight), plus about half a dozen regular cleaning solutions. Damn gun was loaded with 45 colt and 357 Mags were leaving the barrel it was leading so miserably. The solution worked extremely well and I highly reccommend it, BUT BE CAREFUL IT WILL HARM BLUEING. pLUG ONE END OF YOUR BORE THEN POUR IN THE SOLUTION IN THE OTHER END WATCH IT BUBBLE FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES. POUR THE BLACK GUNCK AMD LEAD SHAVINGS OUT AND CLEAN WITH SOME OIL TO NUTRALIZE THE CHEMICAL REACTION. I WAS VERY SUPRISED AT THE RESULTS AND HOPE YOU ARE TOO.

Yeah, I'll take em. I traded my 44 Mag for a S&W Model 624.
