I wanted a nice doe for the freezer. The shooting started up in the fields and 4 came running by. They stopped just right and I picked a good one and made a perfect heart shot with the .475 BFR. She ran into the ground about 40 yd's.
Marko is still in his stand so I left him and the deer to come home for coffee.
I will post a picture later.
Now I need to figure which revolver to use next.

I took Marko to his stand at 2 and he called at 4 saying he shot a deer with his .475. He made a perfect shot too. It rained all afternoon.
It sure pays to practice with the big guns.

Well, we got our meat deers on opening day, taking the pressure off. Will go for something sexier this coming weekend, but if I don't see it, I'll shoot another deer for the freezer.....

I sat in a stand for about 4 hours this morning and froze my tukkus off. Saw a few deer, but the only ones that offered a shot were the size of small dogs, and I wanted to shoot an adult, albeit, a young adult....... So, I went empty handed.

bfrshooter treated us to his venison barbeque and a mug of his home brew, and we relaxed and warmed up for a couple of hours.

Went back in the stand at 2:00 and it promptly started to rain -- not hard but steady. Nothing for two hours when a doe passed in front of my stand about 30 yards out at about 250 mph. No shot on that one was attempted. Another doe showed up but didn't offer a shot, but a button buck made the mistake of offering me a broadside shot. I hit him in the shoulder offhand and moving at about 25 yards with my SRH in .475 Linebaugh. It took off running and ran straight into a tree and then down and out. I climbed down, snapped a picture, gutted him and waited for my ride to come and pick the two of us up........ Big Grin

Here's bfrshooter and his doe.

bfrshooter's 420 grain AWFN (Almost a Wide Flat Nose) took the top of the heart off........

My button buck with a .475-inch hole through the shoulder. The heart and lungs were decimated (gotta love hardcast flat-points!).

Absolutely! Thanks guys. If we held out for trophy bucks where we hunt, we wouldn't kill deer most years. I'd rather hunt than hold out and we eat a lot of venison, so this weeken I may of may not kill a trophy, but I will kill a deer (hopefully!)!

Hey Marko, Richard went down the road this morning. I heard three fast shots a little later from his 7mm mag. With 5 or 6 shots yesterday (maybe more?) we need to buy stock in the ammo companies! jumping

Although there was a tremendous amount of bloodshot at the shoulders, this is what you get after cleaning. Just a hole. Compare that with the head size holes some brag about from rifles.
This is what I prefer instead of blowing an animal to pieces.
The entry hole was larger and had to be cut away a little because of hair.
What really counts is the internal damage, not exploded meat.

. yep , eat right up to the bullet hole ... The 458 Win does the same ,looks identical with the 500 gr bullets when you hit a deer ...... Shoot them thru the heart and if you wanted you can eat both halves ...........

That is the funny thing about guys complaining about the X bullets in rifles ,, I guess they think if they don,t totally destroy the shoulder the bullet failed .........X bullets don,t blood shock much meat if any......
