I have a BSA one mounted on my TC 10" bbl in 45 Win Mag,, and it has held up so far, maybe 300-400 rounds thru it now

Depends on how low cost you mean. At the $50 and under range are not likely to last but the next pricing tier and up should be able to handle it. I use a older Tasco on my .44 mag revolver and have no problems. Many of the Bullseye shooter mount ones like Ultradots on the slide of the .45 and they hold up well. Check to make sure the manufacture does not put a limit on size. I've seen some that say nothing larger than .357. But, yeah they work.

I'v used my Millet on my 45/70 quite a bit and once or twice on my 44 mag hunter, with no problems. The biggest drawback IMO is if you'r moving in and out of dim and brightly lighted areas, you may be adjusting the dots intensity constantly. I'v seen Leupold EER 2Xs for not a whole lot more than the Millet($40-$50 more) in the classifieds, but if the adjustings not a concern it'll hold up well.
