ok got a black bear hunt coming up second week of sept.My plan is to use my 475 linebaugh bisley as primary gun and was planing on using a 500 linebaugh ruger super redhawk with an ultradot for the backup in low light but here lies the problem i was told by the builder it was a week an half away that is great but that was almost 2 months ago.I'm not knocking the smith but i'm concerned not gonna get in time to shoot and get it ready for hunt if it does come before hunt.So i have 2 options as backup with ultradot either put red dot on my 41 mag ruger redhawk or switch to rifle and use a marlin 444 which i would have to get a base for. The bears are around 200-350 pounds and about 15yds away with 20 yds being longest over bait and from ground blind.I really want to take my first bear with handgun but is 41 enough and if so what ammo you recomend???????? With situation what would you decide? DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR

TBEAR -- talked to him today and it will be done very soon. Something very unexpected happened (accumulation of additional machinery) that was too good to pass on, which threw timelines off. That said, the timing arms are being cut on the extractors tomorrow. Friday they are being line-bored, and by next Monday the cylinders are going out for heat treat (cylinder - H900, and H-1000 extractor). When they come back from heat treat, they get assembled and tested, and finally shipped. You will have your .500 in PLENTY of time for Mr. Bruin. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." I predict that with your .475 as your primary, Mr. Bear won't need any backing up (that is assuming you do your part ). "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Jack told me about an hour ago that he won't be taking any calls over the next couple of days in order to get the .500s done for heat treat next week.......we're getting close! Black bear that size is not a problem for the .41Magnum. I've taken a few larger ones with the 250grWFNGC bullet I cast. For factory loaded ammo I'd recommend Corbon, Grizzley, Buffalo Bore, and Federa Cast core. I haven't successfully hunted black bear with a pistol. Have hunted a number of deer with the .41 Magnum using a number of types of bullets. The two best performers have been a 220 gr cast bullet I make with an H&G mold, and the 210 gr Remington softpoint projectile. The cast bullet gives extreme penetration but no expansion and the Remington softpoint gives a very good balance of great penetration and good expansion. The Remington softpoint is one of the very few factory bullets and loads that really does work in the field. If you used a .41 for this where would you place the bullet? I only ask because it's not impossible I could get an invite for an E. Tenn. hunt. The last opportunity fell through, but I wouldn't mind trying again. Last time, I was planning on taking a Win Model 94 and an SW Model 29. Would not be reluctant at all to substitute the SW .41 Model 57 with one of Cor-Bon's hunting loads...either the 210 jhp or the 250 h/c. That's another question...which of those two? The jhp certainly has worked well on deer.

two schools of thought either behind front shoulder and go through both lungs or hit front shoulder to break bones and take more fight out of bear quicker as of right now my plan is behind fron shoulder but when i get there i will talk to the guide who has more experince and see where he wants bullet placed DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR
