Does anyone shoot this bullet without a gas check? If so how fast do you push them?

Back when I first started casting for my 44 Mag, in 1970, the first mold I bought, the only one I could find locally, was for a 240gr SWC with a gascheck.

I was casting my bullets out of linotype, but still I have never put a gascheck on any of those bullets and they shot just fine.

Later I switched to an H&G bullet mold, as I waa using them for my 45 ACP and they worked well.

If you use wheel weights you can push them up to 1,400FPS with out a Gascheck .

I cast them out of WW and they come from the mold 315 grs. I shot them with a max load of H110 for 1380fps right from the mold no gas check.

I then sized and gas checked them with the same powder avg 1320 and group size was more then cut in half to one ragged hole.

From my 5.5 inch red hawk

I shoot the gas check and sized ones now.

Did you try sizing them without adding a gas check?

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

+1 on Gas checks..I can only say from my experance, at least with hot loads you get less leading and better accuracy.

I am actually now fine tuning some loads for an upcoming pig hunt with 300 gr WFN, they are gas checked and have had both my test loads clover leaf at 25 yards, Just need to run them thru the chrono to decide which one.

300 to 310 gr is perfect. The Lee is great.
Leaving off a GC is changing the drive area length for the rifling.
Put it on or get a PB version.
Leave the chrono home and find accuracy, no pig will object if a boolit is 50 fps slower.

I did have some issues with the Lee mold, the worst was the GC shank too small and checks too loose.
I finally lapped the mold and checks push on with a little "snap" now.
I hate the thin sprue plates but make them work.
