1095 SPRING STOCK **SOLD** I acquired this box of 1095 Tool Steel, Spring Stock more than 35 years ago from a retiring Tool Room Machinist. In my 4 decades as a Custom Gunmaker I have made numerous flat, V and forged springs from this stock. Now retiring I can pass it on to another knowledgeable craftsman. 1095 steel has .95% carbon making it great spring steel and edge tool steel. It is very easy to harden and temper and I did this mostly by eye, watching the colors as the steel was heated. Cherry red, Quench in oil to harden. Heat to temper color, bright-blue for springs, yellow or straw for tools and blades. Quenching in vegetable oil works great. All this stock is dead soft, annealed and easy to work cold by filing hack-sawing or milling. It is all sheet from .010" thickness to a bit over .100" thick. There is some thinner stock in the envelopes and bottom of the box. Most all of it was labeled with a marker by the machinist I got it from. Some tarnish, no rust or corrosion, all is in great condition and ready to use. This is a treasure trove, lifetime supply of Spring Stock for a small shop guy who needs to make the occasional Flat or V spring in house. I also made many edge chisels, cutting tools and wood scrapers as needed. The multitude of sized and thicknesses give you the ability to start with the appropriate size stock to lessen manufacturing time. As can be seen the is about 6lbs. 9 oz of Tool Steel and I will ship in a well packaged, Priority Mail box. $225 shipped THANKS FOR LOOKING, Steven Dodd Hughes Please PM to purchase or for more info ACGG Life Member, since 1985 | ||
