Mauser 98 - 2 Position Safety

Mauser 98 2 position Safety kit - $45. Kits were made from Mr. Chapman's original drawings with some marked improvements. These kits require machining in the same way that Chapman, Wisner, and others did. HOWEVER, it is recommended that you measure your bolt shroud and machine accordingly. Our dimensions vary slightly from Chapman/Wisner units, and bolt shrouds vary significantly!

All parts included are made of quality US materials and made in the USA. The Lever, screw and lock are heat treated for years of use. All parts are in the white and will require polishing and bluing after installation.

2 Position Safety

Fixture Block - $65 to machine your bolt shroud for the Mauser 98 2 position Safety kit. Styled after the Chapman fixture, but with some improvements and ONLY for the Mauser 98.

We strive to use US materials whenever possible. Both the aluminum block and clamp bolt are US materials, US made, however we could not find a US flange nut for a reasonable price, unfortunately this one is Chinese until we can find a US supplier.

It’s been a long time since I did one, but isn’t the screw hole in a different position for the pme vs Chapman? Which dimension does this use?

I believe they are different; the chapman screw engages the lever, the Wisner engages the shroud at the top

These will come with instructions including dimensions. I'd have to dig out the Chapman drawings and the Wisner instructions to determine what the difference was.

Jim, yes and no, depending on the time frame. You might be thinking of one of the other designs, or Chapman's early kits. The oldest documents I have from Chapman are from the 80's and it seems like all he sold was the lever, not the complete "kit" as it includes instructions for making all the other parts. This offers both styles of screw dependant on what the customer wants. His later kits were all based on the threads engaging the shroud.
