Anyone have any loads they want to share for this bullet in a 338-06??

I know there are much better bullets SD & BC wise, but I plan on using this bullet for deer in the next couple of weeks. Ranges will be from 50 to 300 yards at the longest.

So please, if you're just going to tell me to use a heavier bullet...move on!!

To those who share their loads, thanks a bunch in advance Wink

I don't have any loads with that bullet. I would look to something like RL17, RL15, or Imr4895

As usual just my $.02

Hogdon's website has some data on it for that bullet.

30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

Thanks guys,

I had a look @ the loads on both Hodgon's website & Barnes website & think I have it narrowed down to IMR4895, as that's what I have on hand. Going to use the H4895 min load & then work up slowly.

I'm sure I'll find a reasonable load that's minute of deer!!

Again, thanks!!

Good luck with it. You might look at RL-15 too if 4895 does not work. Though I have not shot 160gr, Rl-15 has done very well from 180, 200, 210 & 225 gr. in mine.

Running little behind but just back from shooting my first whitetail with this 160 TTSX out of my 338-06. Worked up to a load of 63.5 RL 15 @3.385 this in my pre 64 fwt. Bullet entered at the second rib taking out a lot of shoulder on the exit and it is somewhere in S.Texas dirt or mesquite as we speak. This rifle has now taken moose, mtn caribou, brown bear and six African plains game to include zebra, impala, sable, wildebeeste, bushbuck, bushpig. Gotta luv this caliber for bullet range from 250 down to this latest 160! Yes, just got my second one on std 24" pre 64.

Thanks for the info Muy...although I'm still waiting on my 160's as they're on backorder. Looks like I'll have to use my 270 WSM with 140gr Accubonds this year as the season started yesterday...seen a few bucks but no shooters yet!!
