Gun Tests - Reloader Review

If anyone is interested I looked up an old article in Gun Tests magazine (www.gun-tests.com) dated March 2000 on page 23. They tested the Dillon RL 550B with all the options, Hornady's Lock-N-Load and the Lee Load-Master. I remember when this article came out, the RCBS Progressive 2000 had just came out prior to this article.

In the article the Dillon cost $1,070 as tested, Hornady L-N-L $350, and the Lee Load-Master $320. The Lee didn't get too good of a rating. The Dillon was the top choice in the article.

I have found a Hornady Lock-N-Load and an RCBS 2000 with a lot of extras for a very cheap price. I may have to rethink the Dillon I wanted unless I can find someone getting rid of their reloading equipment.

Are you certain it was a 550? A 650 with auto case feed setup in one caliber is less than $700.

I don't think even Dillon sells enough options to make a RL550B cost $1070!

RL550B & caliber kit $326

Optional accessories:
Low powder sensor $34
Strong mount $34
Bullet tray $28
Roller handle $26

That is what the article said. They bought all the bells and whistles. Perhaps this was for the 4-5 different calibers they were reloading. I don't know.

$1,100 for a 550 is rediculous! You can get away with a 550 for about half that amount!

Gun Tests uses MSRP. List price. They usually mention that the products tested are available at significant discount.

The prices Rick listed are retail. I don't have a grand in my 650 with auto casefeed, strong mount and bullet tray.

Are you sure it was $1070? You can't buy them for that much in the Dillon catalog. The only place you can get one for $1070 is from me. I will sell you my RL550B along with its bells and whistles for $1070, and then I will buy back the press along with considerable bells, and whistles from Dillon for half that price.
