You guys said it would happen.....that I wouldn't stay just with reloading 22-250. Now I'm here. Doesn't make sense to go for super accuracy when hunting 'yoties but not my monster mulies. What I'm trying to do is not wind up with 50 different powders on the shelf. SHooting really tight groups in 22-250 with both powders and I'm wondering if someone is doing the same with a 30-06 combo. I'm shooting a Mauser MK-X action and would like to stay around 150-165 grains. 200 yrds would be a really long shot where I hunt. I fingure anything reloaded will shoot better than the off the shelf stuff. Thanks guys!!!!

Try about 48 grains of IMR4064 with a good 165 grain bullet. The load is accurate in all my rifles, as is 52 grains of 4064 with a 150 grain bullet. S40

This is pretty good advice.

go to www.hodgdon.com as they have loads for the .30-06 using both H-380 and IMR-4064.

Both powders can be used in the .30-06.

While I like H 380 a lot... I like 4064 more..

one of my favorite loads in the 06, is a 180 grain bullet, behind 50 grains of IMR 4064...

some newer load manuals back that off a grain to a grain and a half...by it is still my favorite goTo load in an 06....

H 380 won't treat ya bad, but 4064 will treat ya better...

IMR 4064 is, I think, the optimum powder for 150 gr. bullets in the 30/06. IMR 4064 will also work well with heavier bullets, although it is a bit too fast burning for top velocities with those.

IMR 4350 and IMR 4831 work very well for the heavier bullets in the 30/06.

H-414 seems to me to give excellent results with bullets from 150 to 180 grains.

RL22 will often yield the highest velocities with 165 gr. and heavier bullets.

The 30/06 seems to me to be relatively easy to load for. Many different combinations of bullet and powder give good to excellent results.

Gidday dubs22-250,

My load for 30-06 is 53gr IMR4064 and 150 gr balistic tip/hotcore/corloct. This load is over book max by 1 gr but is safe in my rifle (Model 700 BDL) and is scary accurate.

Work up to this and I'm sure you won't go to far wrong. This is death on red deer down sized game. There is no need to go anything heavier for this sized game.

Happy Hunting

I got my introduction to 4064 many years ago in a .22-250 before it was a factory cartridge. In all the years since, I've tried to find a more accurate and versatile powder in that and other cartridges.

No luck yet! 4064 remains accuracy king on my bench, including the -06.
