While probably a little more sensitive than the newer "extream" powders, I have used IMR 3031 in several different calibers from 223 to 450 No2 in all different weather conditions from winter hunts to hot summers at the rifle range with out any problems. It is one of my favorite powders.

I used IMR3031 last December to load for my 22/250 very accurate at 40*F, sub moa 100yds. this past spring shot some of those bullets i had loaded in December temp in the low 80's the group opened up and primers flattened.

i worked up a load at the same time with Varget sub .5moa summer or winter. poi moved a little but that could be due to other things.

Just my experience.

This is a southern phenomenum. In my neck of the woods we work up loads in the summer, and use them during the winter. Nowbody gets real serious about slogging through snow and cold to load develop, and we work on last summers load devlopment projects, on our benches all winter.

3031 is a single based powder and these as a group tend to be slightly more temperature sensitive than double based powders. The best for temperature sensistivity are supposed to be triple based powders but these are not avvailble to the reloading world and only the military gets these. A note of interest is that temperature sensistivity varies greatly even inside the broad group of single based powders and each has its own burn rate and temp charactoristics.

Imr's 3031 may have temperature sensitivity but it's served me very well in summer target loads and while hunting in very cold weather.

It's one of my favorite powders.
