I have lots of H4350 and AA 4350. Looking through the Lyman 48th edition, there are no loads with 4350. Lots of loads with medium burning powders from IMR 3031 to IMR 4064.

Is 4350 too slow for the 35 Whelen?

Of course 4350 is too slow because the case body is thin and the bullet is thick. When the bullet start to left, the room extends quickly.

Do you understand what I am meaning? I can tell those story much better in Swedish, Germany or in Finnish.

4350 is a bit too slow, and you will find Rel 15 or IMR 4895 or 4064 much better.

For along time there was a load listed on the web site for aliant powders. KEEP IN MIND THE LOAD LISTED HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE SITE.
(MEANING DON'T STRAT THERE)
The load showed a 250 grain hornady bullet at 60 grains of RL-15 and it showd a preasure reading with room to spare.
I have used that load quite a bit in my custom mauser with a speer bullet, and I get 2600 FPS.
I just checked the site and they removed that load with the hornady and replaced it with a load using speeer bullet and 54 grains of RL-15 as max, and a top velocity of 2200 Pluss.
No presure mentioned.
What really pisses me off is that I have 50 rounds loaded with 59.5 grains.
So I would have told you before all this to go with RL-15 and it might still be good.
I think as far as the loads I have done, I will likly use them up in cold weather and then work up a new load mabye witha 225 grain bullet...tj3006

Keep in mind that the load Hornady removed used their RN bullet that is quite short below the cannelure when compared to 250 gr spitzers. I have had zero problems using that load and bullet while other 250 gr bullets have given me pressure signs a couple of grains below.

I'm with Terry here.

Add Varget and BL-C(2) to the list of useful powders

4350 is too slow.

Look at R-15, 4320, 4895, and 4064. All will work depending on what your rifle likes.

That's what I suspected.

IMR 4064 has been the recommended powder for the 35 Whelen.

Still, I have some WC852 which I will test, before using any of my last IMR 4064.

Or maybe some of that AA4064 that I have.....

My limited experience with the 35 Whelen is with Vv 140, 150 and Norma 203b, and they all work very well.

On my burningratechart the 140 and 203b line up with Rel 15 and 150 with 4350.

SlamFire..I have played with wc852 in my Whelens with poor results, I think my 852 is one of the slow batches... Have had good luck with H4895 and my best results have been with IMR4064..finally settled on 4064 for all my Whelen loads.
