Anybody have some load info for a .32-06 or an 8mm-06? I have a 03-A3 action that will get a barrell. ------------------

Why not a 338-06, better bullet selection and more killing power with the same recoil or a 9.3x62 if you like metrics...unless of course you just want an 8mm-06. ------------------

I agree with Ray the 338-06 is better. However, the Speer manual has load data for the 8mm-06.Good shooting

Man, I could not agree more with the above posts but would go one further even, go with the 35 Whelen which is now a factory round. The 8mm/06 made a lot of sense when you took a standard 8x57, ran a reamer into it , checked the headspace and had a rifle that worked and you had a ready supply of brass at hand, and you had spent almost no money. Did several myself and was generally pleased with the results. But to buy and rebarrel in this caliber? No way! Best regards, ------------------

What I'm looking to do is this. I've got a 6.5-06 and a .280 now I want to go the other way with the 06 case. Goig up to the .338 makes more sense than the .32. As far as the .35 whelen goes, I've had my eye on that one for a while now. It's just a matter of time. ------------------

OTTO Now that everyone has you talked out of an 8mmo6. I had a very nice German 8x57 with a long throat.I could seat the 200 & 220 gr bullets out just shy of the rifling and get good accuracy but with anything lighter (and shorter)2 to 3 in groups @ 100 yds were the normal.I had the barrel rechambered to 8mmo6 and have never been sorry. The lightest bullets I shoot are the 175 gr sierra's. A max load IN MY RIFLE of 65 grs W760 results in an honest 3000 fps.The 200 gr Speer or Nosler bullets can both reach 2750 fps without excessive pressure. Both of these are very effective big game loads. A few years ago premium 8mm bullets were scarce. Not so today. With the Nosler partition & a new Ballistic tip ,the Barnes X's,the 200 Speer & the 220's from Hornady & Sierra give you a pretty good choice. If I were building a new rifle in 8mm I think I would look at the 8x68 but if I had an 8x57 with a good barrel and wanted a little more performance The 8mm 06 would warrant consideration.

Snowman, I have a long throated 8x57 M-21 Brno and with that long throat I can seat the 250 gr. woodleigh to the base of the neck...With that long throat I can equal the 8mm-06 velocitys, its the same as blowing out the shoulder. Did you ever chronograph that gun before the conversion...However if you have a long throat in the 8mm-06 then you can duplicate the 8MM Mag or 8x68 I'd bet..You might have to lenthen the magazine about 50 thou. ------------------

Ray The only load I have any record of chronograghing before rechambering was the 200 Speer. It was seated to the base of the neck and it averaged 2620 fps. After rechambering to 8mm06 the same bullet is averaging 2750.Yes the magazine was lengthened. I also have an 8x68 in a Brno 602 and an 8mm Remm in a 700. As good as the 8mm06 is it is outclased by the larger rounds. The 8x68 with a 26 in barrel has no trouble reaching 3000 + fps with 200 gr bullets and the 8mm Rem will beat that in a 24 in barrel. At those velocities you have to stay with the Swift,Nosler or an X bullet.
