BD, I'm on my second jug of WC 820, which I purchased from different sources over a span of 8 yrs., but have found both to be almost identical to each other. The only difference is that the current lot (A 181, a LC produced powder) is keyed to Accurate Arms #9. I use it as such in my .357mags., but in 13gr. to 14gr. doses in my SKS (as I did with the original lot, which was essentially H110) with cast bullets. There is no difference that I can determine in either speed or accuracy between the old "H110" version and the newer "AA #9" version. Hope this helps, ...Maven

Hi all, a poster on another board is just getting into surplus powders. Does anyone have any specific info on Hitech's Lot # LT-C12910 WC820 in .30 carbine, .41 mag or .44 mag? Also lot # LC-HP1228-03 of WC846 for the .223? He's gotten the usual advice of using H110 data for the WC820 and ,(If memory serves), 748 data for the WC846. However I've seen quite a bit of variation in the speed of WC820 between different lots and I'm not using any WC846 so some more specific data would be usefull.

My cousin and I are using a lot (much) of WCC 846. To date we have tested it in 2ea. 22-250s,.223, .243,.257 Roberts, 6.5X55,.270,7x57,.308 and 30-06. We have been using BL-C-2 loading data. All loads have been mild and fairly accurate. The .257& the .308 consistantly shoot tight(1/2") groups at 100 yds with the right bullets. One noticeable difference in this powder is the distinctive sound it makes in most rifles. Instead of the Normal POW you hear a BARRUUUUMMM If I had to guess I would say that it is a tad slower burning than BL-C-2, but don't take that to the bank. roger

just went over some of the results I had with WCC 846 in the 358X404. One round was 200ft/sec. faster than all the rest (wlr primers). Also with 2 different loads using std. rifle primers there were at least 1 slight hang fire in each. I felt all this was a matter of too much powder for a std. rifle primer. Now I wonder. roger

I have a lot of pulldown WC820 that's closer to AA#9 than anything. Loading it to H110 or 296 specs would be way too hot. That's what the dealer said to use when I got it, though. Take their advice with a grain of salt. They don't have the facilities to test these powders extensively themselves and are repeating info from the original manufacturer's specs or what they were told about the stuff when they bought it surplus. Powders made for factory and arsenal loading don't need to be held to the level of lot to lot consistency that canister powders for handloaders do, so they rarely are.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm well aware of the variation between lots which is why I was asking if any of you experienced surplus shooters had gotten into these specific recent lot #s from Hi tech. I still have 20 lbs of WC820 lot #47321 which is pretty close to H110, but I have seen data from more recent lots of WC820 which was faster than AA#9, one guy was even using it in the .45acp. BD

Becare full with the 846 I have one jug that is awful fast. I have to cut loads by 25 percent to be safe.I used the data I received with the powder used the low end starting load and blew a primer in my 308. I found wcc844 and 852 much nicer to work with have shot pounds and pounds of that stuff with out trouble.
