I was reading in G&A that Benchmark closely duplicates the burn rate of IMR3031 with three significant differences.
1. much finer granules
2. 8% more dense
3. insensitive to temperature variations
What do you think of trying this in 458 WinMag? It seems this would help the problem of not getting enough powder in the case. IMR3031 has shot very well in my 458 with 500gr Hornady SP. Any observations or opinions would be appreciated

HI,

I think you are on something.Benchmark happens to be a powder that works great in straight cases like the 4570 and the 50-110,which is a 2.4 inch case that will take a .510 bullet, big. I am waiting on a 50-110 right now and benchmark is a powder that is getting very good results in it. I will get a 525 grain bullet going near 2200fps. Kev

I just got a Lb of Benchmark and will load some 500 gr hornady's with it today. Will try them out next week and post results. I have 2 458's and will try both and chrono loads. Also have some GS FN 450gr to try but I have to wait till I am through with the non moly bullets to work up a load.
Steve, enjoyed your reloadind site.
