hey all I just aquired a new NEF survivor in .308 win with the bull barrel and it seems to love my current target load of 22.5gr BD/ 150gr hor fmjbt seated to cannalure. .75"@100 are really starting to bore me. So I was looking around the net and saw some cheap 30 carbine bullets and got to thinking.....cheap plinking loads anyone? The only thing I don't know is will a 1:10 twist stabilize the 110 gr pill? Not looking for sub moa loads just say min. of vicious clay pidgeon at 100?

wadda yall think? should I give 'er a whirl or am I just wasting my time?

TIA

Chauncey,I tried 110 grainers in my 30-06. Big surprise was that they printed where my 150 grainers did. But I really saw no good reason to use them as there wasnt that much difference in recoil between the 110's and the 150's. With cast bullets in my 30-06 the first load I shot was using 4064 powder and velocity was around 2400 fps and it felt about like a 30-30. I also used some Unique and the velocity was down around 1600 fps--so mild at first I thought a missfire. If you want cheap and mild plinking loads try some cast bullets.

The 1 in 10 twist will stabilize the 110 grs just fine...

In fact for blacktails, 22.5 grains in a 308, with a 110 grain SP, or Sierra's 110 grain HP, or the 110 grain V Max, all make good blacktail loads in a 308, or 06, or in a NEF 30/30...or Savage 340 or Rem 788 in a 30/30...

how about a 115 - 120 gr gas-checked (.308 dia)cast bullet?

A friend came up with about 100 of these for me and I'm thinking about loading some grouse loads.
How fast can I push these out of a .308 Win?

I'd say give it a whirl.

My 30/30 running around in the woods load is 16.7 gr of blue dot with speer 100 gr plinkers @2400 fps +/- 50 fps. I haven't done any serious accuracy work with it because of open sights, but it shoots at least as well as I can offhand to 80 yards.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

16.5 BD WW 30-30 cases, WLP, and Remington 110 RNSP is 2164 fps out of my 14 Contender and will pass through a small TN buck on a broadside ribcage shot at 35 yards out of a model 94 (a friends son tested it out of the rifle on a youth hunt).
