Having used IMR 7828 in the 7mm Rem. Mag., I would consider it too slow for the .30/'06 with anyuthing except 220 to 240-grain bullets. H4831 and RE 22 are about optimum in the '06 with 200-grainers, and these both are a tad faster than 7828. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

The only published numbers I find (Nosler Manual No. 4) show 56.0 gr. max. for a 220 gr. bullet in a 30.06. I think IMR-7828 is too slow a powder for 165-180 gr. bullets in a 30.06. A recent thread on AR indicated IMR-4350 and H-414 were popular powders for that bullet weight.

I hear you hornhunter.I have worked up some great loads for my rifle with H4350.I just happen to have some 7828 here and thought I might try some heavier bullets with it.RB Red comyn of Altyre

RB, look at stevespages.com, looks like he has the info you want. Sorry, I don't know how to post that as a link.

For that bullet weight I've had some good results with IMR-7828 (I won't publish the load because it'll just set off another firestorm) but prefer RL22 For the lighter bullets I'd recommend H-4350 or H-414 /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Hell! That is all the excuse I would need to go out and buy another rifle! LoL That 7828 would be just perfect in a rifle chambered for the 7mm STW or 300 RUM LoL

I've played w/ it a bit in my son's 06. 62gr under a 180gr SGK gives 2750fps & right @ 1moa. The new 7828ssc makes it easier to get 62gr in the case. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

IMO. I wouldnt have even thought of that combo.Too slow powder,to little case.I find that pup nicely suited to the likes of 4350

IMR7828 works very well in 30-06 AI, and if it works with the AI, it'll work with the standard '06. Here's some data with 165 gr. NBTs with a 26" barrel in a '06 AI. 7828..66g 165 NBT 3102 ACCUR 7828… 67g 165 NBT 3133 ACCUR 7828… 68g 165 NBT 3208 ACCUR 7828… 69g 165 NBT 3224 ACCUR - getting hot. 7828ssc works even better. Go for it! Regards, AIU

Ackley Would you mind running some data thru your quick load program.Using IMR 7828,24" barrel Coal 3.48" 180gr Baltip WLR primer & brass starting at 55gr and working up to 62gr.The 165gr loads you posted look great but I won't push ballistic tips much over 2900fps due to the violent expansion that can take place. Every rifle is an individual, so while 7828 is generally too slow for optimum performance in a .30-06, you might find it passable in your rifle, especially if it has a longer barrel. In one friend's 22" bbl M700, surplus 4831 (only a tad faster than 7828) would only kick a 180 grainer out at about 2500 fps, but in another friend's 24.4" Sako, the same batch of 4831 delivered about 2750 fps. Try your 7828 with some heavier bullets and see what you get. You could be pleasantly surprised, and all it will cost is the price of the components for five or so rounds.

I found that, by using a long drop and swirling the powder into the case, I could get 63 grains of IMR 7828 into Winchester brass in 30-06. With a CCI 200 primer, this gave me a velocity of 2835 f.p.s. using Speer 200 grain spitzer bullets in the 30-06 rifle I used, a Browning Safari with a 22 inch barrel, built on a Mauser action. This load is, of course, heavily compressed. The overall length was 3.26 inches. At 100 yards, I got a 3-shot group of 1.55 inches with this combination. At 200 yards, 3 shots gave me a group of 1.11 inches -- the fourth shot enlarged the group to 2.78 inches. This load may be too hot for some rifles, so you are on own if you try it. For what it may be worth -- take it with however much salt you think is appropriate -- my perception is that IMR 7828 is slow-burning enough that you cannot get enough of it into a 30-06 case to cause an overload with any bullet up to 200 grains. I tried it a few weeks ago in '06 with 200 grain Partitions. 58 was the listed max and at 3.4"OAL, 57.5 gave snarly little groups. 58.5 started to flatten primers. Haven't yet chrono'ed any of them. This is with Rem brass that holds only 60-ish grains when filled to the top of the neck, Win Primers. Standard 700 Rem BDL, 22" barrel, long throat. I think you need to go with Reloader 19 or IMR 4350 in your 30-06. Reloader 19 even says on bottle for 30-06........... Jeff North Pole, Alaska Red Team 98
