hoping for some help here folks, I've been using factory loads in my Tikka .243 for stalking and looking to start loading my own shells. The factory load were Federal 80g soft points. I need to know what heads and a suitable powder, was thinking of Hodgsons or vit powder but don't really want to go above a 90g head. many thanks for any help

90 gr I use burger moly coated.
80gr 85gr Barnes
70gr 75gr gr Sierra.
In my 243AI I use 95gr moly coated burgers.
and H4831SC.
I load 2 -3 grains under max and seat .020" off the lands.

I would use H4350 or VV N160 for 100 gr bullets - Rem cor lokt & Nosler Partition

Barnes TSX in 85 gr were also lethal on deer.

Not sure where you hunt? Europe? Africa? (since you said "heads" for projectiles / bullets)

I found the 243 Win to be a love / hate cartridge. Some of my friends loved it 20 years ago. Most of them now shoot 7mm08 like me.

The 243Win gave us spectacular kills on some deer and we also lost some animals that we should not have. I still think of my White tail buck in Stewart Island (yes we have them here in NZ) I shot in 1996 at about 6 meters range in very thick bush & I could only see its left arm pit. The deer jumped up, flashed its tail and disappeared. we found blood, body tissue etc. in a big 30 inch circle on leaves and trees out 10 meters behind the animal! I searched for that animal for 3 days in very thick bush and crown fern but no luck.

You guessed it - that rifled went on its way - swapped for a Husky 9.3X57

My sons .243 really likes IMR4350 with
85 grain Sierra's HPBT and Speer 90 grain bonded core bullets (Deep Shock I think).
Both bullets are killers on deer.
About 3050 fps with the 90 grain Speers and 3125fps with the 85 grain Sierra's both shoot .5" 5 shot groups and the lighter bullets are 1" higher than the 90's.
