Friends-

I have been a loyal user of the Hornady One Shot Spray on lube for the last ten years or so, but can anyone tell me whether the formula has changed in the last couple of years or so?

I was full length resizing some cases for 7mm Rem Mag and .270 Weatherby Mag for family members. I had run the cases through my tumbler; did my typical application of One Shot and I ended up "sticking" five cases in resizing dies over the couse of the day.

Now I have been handloading for 30 years. After the first two incidents, with the stuck cases removed, I cleaned the dies with break cleaner and then applied an application of One Shot in the dies themselves. Fool me twice, happened again.

So, I cleaned the dies and applied an application of ATF. Then, I also polished the expander balls with lapping compound and presto chango, no problems.

I have to believe that somewhere along the way, Hornady changed the formula for One Shot.

Any thoughts???

I dunno if it's changed, but I noted that over the years I started to get a bit "quick" with my case spraying and realized that I had to slow down a tad and spray a bit more lube on the cases.

PS: Yep, I stuck about 3 cases before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Not lubing enough. (Easy on the comments there Peanut Gallery!)

there's now two formulas .. hazmat and no hasmat ... but the bottles are different, iirc.

tell me more about the application of ATF, please... you put tranny fluid on your dies? sounds like a good idea... just hadn't thought of that

I had the same problem with One Shot, so I changed to the Dillon spray lube without issues.

I use the Dillon stuff as well, and have never had any issues with it.

I rambled into a local gun shop to pick up some reloading supplies and I look up to see a couple bottles of the Dillon Spray staring me in the face.

I purchased a bottle and it really works.

I, too, have had this problem with One-Shot. I was able to get the case out and took that crap right back. I now use cheap, dollar-store cooking spray. I just recently began using the Wal-mart stuff-- the kind without the butter flavor. I lay my cases into something like a pie pan, spray a quick shot, swirl them around to get even coverage and run 'em through the die. Never had one stick-- never. I then wash 'em in hot, soapy water, rinse the bejeezus out of 'em, dry 'em in a thin-bottom stainless skillet over a low heat (shake 'em around or toss 'em with a steel spatula) until all the water is gone (takes just a few minutes), let 'em cool and go forth as usual...
