I started working up loads for my new 6.5x284 and so far the gun shows real promise. This morning I shot the second best 5 shot group that I've ever measured at 0.316". Here's the work up so far: 6.5x284 Lapua Brass 142 grain SMK Federal BR primer H4350 .007 off lands Powder...Velocity..SD.....Group 44.5..... 2685..... 6.8.....0.72 44.7..... 2695..... 7.4.....1.3 45.2..... 2709..... 3.9.....1.2 45.5..... 2737..... 11......0.85 45.7..... 2736..... 6.2.....0.5 46....... 2767..... 4.5.....0.5 46.2..... 2775..... 5.5.....0.7 46.5..... 2791..... 3.9.....0.85 47....... 2818..... 5.......0.75 47.3..... 2804..... 4.5.....0.75 47.6..... 2840..... 9.......0.316 48....... 2874..... 10.8....0.41 So far I have no pressure signs and velocity is consistent with the powder loads. Since I see others shooting above 48 grains with this bullet-cartridge combination I will continue to work up slowly to see where max is in this gun. This is my first wildcat and it has a tight necked, minimum body chamber so I'm being extra cautious with it. Here's a picture of two groups. You certainly don't need any help, Frank, You got it nailed. Now move the target out to 25 yds. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone.. | |||

Fjold, I used the IMR 4831 and R22 with Fed 210M in Winchester cases to between 2980 and 3015 ft/sec in my 28" Hart. Most people think they shoot best at about 2950 and they may be right... IMR 4350 gave me groups similar to your best, but the SD's were too large for the long distances I wished to shoot. the IMR 4831 gives me single digit SD. The Berger match and the Lapua Sencar are not to be missed by the way. If you have the opportunity to shoot at or beyond 1,000 yards you will always have a 6.5/284 in your battery.
