I finally put a scope on the ole swede, so now I have a desire to work up some loads. I'd like to try some 120 gr's for practice loads, but wonder how well they work in the long throat and fast twist of the military rifles. I'd also like to try some 160 gr bullets, either hornady or sierra. It looks like H 4350 should be a good powder to start with. Any tips or favored components apprecieated.

Hodgdon H414/4350 is supposedly identical to ADI powder (made by same company).
I use 44gns pushing 129gn Hornady Interlocks.
Seat the Hornady so the canalure is just visable above the case neck.
Primed with CCI primers. PMC brass.

Unbelievably tight groups.
Please check that Hodgdon powder though in a reloading manual, the powder I use is AR2209, Max load listed as 45.5gns.

Hi Paul. In my 96's the best load I've managed with the 120 gr Nosler BT was 46.5 gr of H414. Federal std LR primer in Yugo brass. Seated out as far as the mag will allow. Clover leaf groups and no pressure signs. I never chronographed the load, as I came up with it before I had a chrony, and it just works so well that I don't care how fast it's going. Take care - Dan

I've used IMR4350, IMR3031, R22, H414, H4831, and H380 all with good success. Primers I've used: CCI200, Federal210, and WLRM again all with good success. Bullets used: Sierra 120 spitzer, 140 BT. Hornady 140 spitzer. Nosler 120 BT. And a few I can't think of now. I've never had accuracy with surplus long throat rifles. When the time comes and I decide to scope my M38 it is certain to shoot better than my M77 Ruger.

My rifle hates 120s. Horn 129s and about any 140 shoot well. RL-19 and RL-22 are preferred powders. While the case isn't all that big, it really prefers powders on the slow end -- IMR4350 and 4895 and H-414 never worked that well. Also had good luck with H-450 but it's discontinued.

My 96 is right there with everyone else. I have had very good luck with H1000.
129's clover leaf, 140's come in a very close 2nd and 160's are tight, but not as good as the 129's.

Mine won't shoot cloverleafs with 120 grain bullets, but will shoot pretty consistant 3/4 inch groups. I use WW 760 or H-414 for the 120 grain bullets.

For 140 grain bullets, I like H 4831SC better than R-22.

Mine will cut cloverleafs with moly coated Hornady 160 grain bullets and IMR-7828 (49 grains.) I am going to try some 140 gr. bullets with IMR-7828. I have a hunch they will like it.

I have worked up some loads using 129 gr hollow points infront of 39 grains of AR 2208. OAL is 3", I have yet to go and fire them. But they should go alright it groups very well with factory PMC ammo.

I have several Swedish Mausers. All perform at their best with 42gr IMR 4350 with a 140gr Sierra HPBT Match. I have also had very good luck with 43gr propelling 120 gr Sierra HPBT. Also, the best results occur when the cartridge is at a maximum length and barely fits in the magazine.
