Shaving cast bullets

When reloading with cast bullets, I tend to have problems when seating the bullets. A small amount of lead is shaved off the bullet. How can this be avoided?

If it is shaved from the base, then you need to adjust your expander ball downward until the case mouth is belled slightly. It should be enough to be visible, yet the base of the bullet should barely sit in the mouth of the case, without support.

If it is shaved from the nose, then you might need a new seating punch.
