How to custom headstamp brass?
Hi everyone,

I'd like to add my own headstamp to some Hornady magnum basic brass. I've got two wildcats based on full length H&H brass, and I'd like to make some correct headstamps. My understanding is that I should start with a 1/16th inch ( 1.5 mm ) letter and number punch set and start stamping away. Can anyone offer some practical suggestions on how to make the process any easier, or offer some hints, tips or tricks? For example, what do you use to support the cases during the punching process? Is there any easier way to do this?

Thanks,

a_p

Talk to 470 Mbogo, he went through this several years ago with the 470 Mbogo brass

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

Try doing a search. If I remember correctly, someone posted awhile back about a company that will make custom headstamps for you.

I tried several searches and found nothing relating to a do-it-yourself situation. I've seen references to using stamps and engravers on various posts around the web. I was simply hoping to find someone who'd actually tried to do it himself.

In a way, the Hornady basic magnum brass might be self solving, in that no headstamp is clearly better than an incorrect headstamp, assuming the headstamp actually matters, which seems to be very much in question. I was just trying to dot my i's and cross my t's.

I'll probably buy a stamping set, as they're quite cheap, and see for myself. I might even spring for an engraver out of curiosity.

Here in the US headtamps matter not. However, should you ever care to take one of your wildcats out of country, then a proper headstamp may very well be required.

I believe these folks can provide you with a custom head stamp but you will probably have to but a certain amount...
I purchased my 400H&H brass from them.

Try A-One engraving on Midway (14000 block, I believe) near Belt Line, they do laser engraving on very small items and might be able to do it...

You need a bunting and a hydraulic press.

I am sure if you get custom pattern laser cut for a Hermes or Deckel you can have your brass engraved. If they can engrave the inside of a wedding band or the back of a watch I am sure they can engrave a cartridge case. Check with a jeweler.
