what have you guys shot that you can really tell the difference in the 2 powders. I usually shoot RL-15. but I want to try something slower. mine does not like W-760.. I do see where the 6.5 creedmore factory load uses H-4350.. and i also have some IMR-4831.. i am loading the 120s.

I shoot H4350 in my 260ai under 120-123gr bullets. Very accurate, very uniform. It's a bit slower than IMR4350. IM4831 also works well under 120-123gr. Either will get you another 100fps o/ RL15 or sim burn rate powders. I save the RL15 or VV150 for 85gr-107gr bullets.

I found in an 80's American Rifleman a statement that H4350 was made to duplicate IMR 4350.

In fact the two powders seem to mirror each other in performance.....almost to the point that they might be the same powder.....

A serious word of caution.....never assume that because an IMR powder has the same number as an "H" powder that they are interchangeable.....

Always look up the loading data to confirm.....

I wish folks wouldn't name their powders with the same numbers as competitors.....AA-4350 is another one.....look it up.....it might be identical to the "H" and "IMR" number.....but never assume it.

Couldn't agree more. We regularly have powder dry up's in the UK and have to generally make do with any form of substitute. My 6.5x55 loves H4350. When in drought, I've tried IMR 4350. When this one dried up I tried Accurate 4350 (as mentioned). Guess what, very little differentiation in velocity spread betweeen the three with the same load (44 gns behind a 140 grainer). I was talking to a mate earlier and we reckon if all powders are not actually being made in China now, they will be shortly. If that's the case, pretty soon you can throw away your reloading books and replace them with a little red one with everything you need to know inside.......

I have had good luck with H4350 and 100-120gr bullets in my 260s. R19 though seems to be a better choice with 120-140gr.

i am very awear of the 2 different burn rates. just like the 4831s, not interchangeable. I have loaded alot of the IMR-4350 in the 270 win. and 280 rem. I have also shot some AA 4350. i just wanted to know who has tested the 2 side by side in the .260 rem. i shot 44.0 grs of IMR yesterday it did ok about 1.0 in. I have not cheched the veolcity yet. going to shoot some more test rounds today

ole joe what is your load with the H

I'd go with H4350 over IMR4350 for 2 reasons:

1) H4350 meters much better because it is a "short cut" powder formerly called H4350SC

2) H4350 is one of Hogdon's "Extreme" powders and is much less temperature sensitive than IMR4350

I've had wonderful accuracy using I4350 in the 6.5 Swede, case capacity is pretty much the same should work just fine.

If you want a couple hundred more fps of velocity, try some RL-17 or W-760

I think you`ll find at equal pressures in the 260 you will be lucky to exceed H4831, H4350, R19, Hi-Bred, or R22 velocities with 125+ gr bullets or, Benchmark, H4350, or R19 with lighter ones compared to velocities with those two powders.

I`m quite confident you won`t see 100fps let alone a couple hundred fps with either R17 or WW760/H414. Even Alliant and Winchester don`t claim them to produce the best velocity in their data.

Start readin, RL17 gets my vote for an alternative with better velocity.
