Whats the max load for win 280cal with the 140 accubonds and imr4831? The 2 books I have say 56gr of imr4831 is max, the books are the speer and hornady, but I see alot of people using 57 or 57.5 is that safe? I am new to reloading. I would also like to be able to get close to 3000fps is it possible with a 22in barrel that I have?

Here is what load tech says from a 22" barrel.
At standard OAL of 3.26" I set max pressure at 65,000. 56.0gr imr 4831 gives 2965fps @65,000. If you have room to seat the bullet out to 3.34" function and stay out of the lands 59grs gives 3000fps @ 64,925. Your barrel could be faster or slower than this.

As usual just my $.02

Once again, with feeling: "All rifles are individuals. What proves to be a maximum load in one may be quite mild in another, and vice versa." Bob Hagel

With this in mind, it is never good practice to start with a published maximum load! It is always wise to start with a starting load, and if that load does not give you the required velocity & accuracy needed for your purposes, you can increase the load, 1/2 of a grain at a time, until you do obtain the performance level you want, or you get pressure indications that tell you to go no further, or even to back off somewhat.

This is all anyone can do, because often a published maximum load in one book is more or less than the published maximim in another book. So, if you subscribe to the rule "never exceed a published maximum load," WHICH maximum load do you choose to NOT EXCEED???

(It is probable that you can get over 3000 FPS from a 140-grain bullet in a 22" .280 Remington. But you might need to use RE22 or IMR 7828 to do it......)
