My son just got reassigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. I told him I'd ship him some ammo for his .270 as soon as I get components (140-grain accubonds). What's the latest on shipping reloads? It used to be that UPS did it, no questions asked. Is that the same today?

I shipped some new 338 Win Mag recently by FEDEX. No problems, but learned after the fact, on this forum, I was supposed to mark the box ORD. Check with the shipper to be sure.

There is no difference in shipping reloaded ammunition as compared to factory-loaded ammunition. Either UPS or Fedex will ship it, but my shipping experience has been much better with Fedex. I think that the ORD label has been updated to some newer designation, but check with the shipper to find out for certain. Loaded ammunition, thankfully (but ironically) does not require a Hazmat fee. By the way, DO NOT attempt to use a "neighborhood" UPS shipping store front. They are not allowed to accept firearms by company policy, and although there is nothing to keep them from accepting ammunition, it will probably set off sirens blaring if you go in and ask them to ship it. The U.S. Postal service does not accept loaded ammunition at all.

Here's a link to current UPS ORD label, I just copy these and attach to box on three sides....no sense asking counter people, they have to call to answer most any question on ORD usage & labels not available to me even at main UPS store where I live........r in w. http://www.type03.net/ammo/limitedquantity.pdf

Thanks for the responses, y'all. On those ORD labels, do you write anything in the blank space, or is the label meant to stand as a symbol on its own?

Is that "ORD" or "ORM"? What does ORD stand for? Aim for the exit hole

Effective Jan 1, 2014, a new label must be used with no other marking, either label can be used until then, the ORM-D still requires the small arms cartridges marking. http://bulletin.accurateshoote...s-on-ammo-shipments/ http://www.ups.com/content/us/...s.html?WT.svl=SubNav Download labels here as was mentioned earlier: http://www.type03.net/ammo/limitedquantity.pdf

I sent the reloads to his new house in Colorado Springs, and a shotgun to the Fort Carson Outdoor Recreation Department (which is an FFL holder) for his pickup. I printed the above symbol, as suggested, and taped it to the side of the ammo box. The girl at the UPS desk didn't even bat an eyelash at either package. They were delivered yesterday. Thanks to all who supplied info on this subject. I've been here about 12 years, and other than almost blowing up a rifle with one of Ray Atkinson's .404 Jeffery loads, , I've never gotten bad advice from this forum. In fact, I've planned and executed at least ten major hunting adventures from info suggested here, shot innumerable trophies with loads touted on this forum, and purchased, repaired, upgraded, and customized about a dozen rifles utilizing techniques and recommendations from other members. I consider AR.com to be the final word when it comes to hunting and shooting info. Thank you Saeed for creating such a useful resource for hunters and shooters the world over!
