Ted, if the temp is controlled at a reasonable temp so when you take components out in warm high humidity they don't draw moisture out of the air. If you are housing ,for instance, powders with fast burning rates in a sealed, unvented fridge without BLOW PLUGS, there may be a remote possibility of ignition and near explosion. Chances are with a focus on safety It'll work just fine. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! IMO powder and primers stored at "room temps" is just fine......but package them in cardboard and paper of several wraps.....not necessarily ziplocks or other plastic wrappers. It's more for humidity control not temp...I will run it on a high temp...my shop has no AC My shop has huge temp swings and Southern Missouri humidity....are you kidding? ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

get you a woman's knee high stocking and fill it full of rice and put it in the freezer. That'll take care of the humidity. I do the same thing in my gun safes Aim for the exit hole

I would say yes as long as it is one of those magnectic seal door types. A little pressure will just push the door open. Get one of the 1950s clunkers with the bank vault strong latch and it will be dangerous.

A friend back in the Northeast uses an old refrigerator in his unheated garage to store his powders, too. He runs a 15W light bulb 24/7 in it to keep the humidity down and temperature above freezing (he disconnected the door switch). George

I recently removed ll my powder from the house and am storing it in a refrigerator. Hasn't been any problem so ar regarding humitidt but our rainly season is in theory starting in a few days. Dunno how the humidity will affect things when I remove the powder from the fridge during that time. There will be a 4 month learning period on that. I have to use a fridge because it gets as hot as 120 out in my shed. My reloading set up is in a second shed that has A/C but reloading this time of year has to be done very early in the morning. By 9 or 10 AM it gets hotter'n hell out there. The blower from the A/C raises all kinds of unholy hell with any of my scales. At least my better half is happy that the powder is out of the house. Could have been a problem had there been a fire. I do think that back there in MO, the humidity could be a problem with condensation when you pull a can out of the fridge. Most of my powders are in bigger containers and what I do is transfer some to a smaller cannister and load strictly from it. I haven't seen any problems with humidity so far but as I said, we don't have much of that here in Arizona most of the time. Paul B.

As a added facet, put a chain around it that you can lock but will still let the door open 2-3"(vent) and you have a locker that is legal according to ABTF and is child proof. Aim for the exit hole

A fridge works fine for storing powder , no need to run it though , would do more harm than good ! Don't forget to have your Liberals spayed or neutered !

how would a controled temp and humidity harm powder? ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

I`d worry the powder would be cooler then the ambiant air temp and upon removal from the fridge the powder would condense moisture from the warmer surrounding air. Not worried about that I am running the fridge in the low 70's range That is no dif than taking a pound from the house out to the shop to load and I have been doing that for nearly a decade ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

If you're able to set the fridge to the low 70's then it should mostly be fine. Any time you move a object into the open atmosphere which is cooled below the dew point you'll have potential for some condensation. Even if your fridge is at 72 degrees, if your garage is 90 and humidity at 85%, then you would theoretically have potential for some condensation to form.

Lot of good advice here. I guess if you summarize you would cut the power cord off the fridge, girdle with a chain and lock, prevent the door from sealing, use large amounts of desiccant in fridge and adequately temp control shop. Hmmmm , Maybe ain't all bad. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..
