Trying to put together a load for use in California. 6.5 x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer. Has anyone found a mon metal bullet with reasonable accuracy that will feed form the magazine? "Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." Mark Twain

I have used almost every type, weight, and shape of various bullets in my 6.5 x 54. Never had a feeding problem. As you know, the MS is one of the few bolt guns that will pick up an empty cartridge from the magazine and align and slip into the chamber flawlessly. This also happens with my 257 Roberts and 308 Win. MS carbines. Saying that, I have not used monometal bullets in the 6.5 as velocities are relatively low and I have hesitated to use on game due to my concern for proper expansion. I have used monometal bullets in the 257 and 308 without feeding problems. My game shooting experience is considered substantial as I have used all three MS carbines for animal control work over a 22 year period on pigs and feral sheep. Geoff Shooter

I cannot speak to that exact cartridge and rifle but I have pretty good knowledge of Barnes and Hammer Bullets in a 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5x280AI. I've used 6.5 127 LR Barnes TTSX on deer through moose and the 6.5 124 Hammer Hunter on deer and aoudad and have no doubt they'd work on elk. They should have zero feeding issues. Never has been a problem for me. Because of the added length per weight, over a cup and core type, you might have to seat them deeper into the cartridge case but the tip would protrude as far as a cup and core. Edit: Both of those mentioned above are very accurate, especially the Hammer! Have fun, Zeke

My old Greek MS may not be quite the real deal because it was made by Breda in Italy. However, I have found that unless I seat pointed 140-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets right out to fill the magazine, they won't feed. Fortunately, the throat, set for 160-grainers, accommodates this. So, being long for weight, I would think monos might give less trouble than in other rifles I've got.
