I am wanting to load some 200 gr North Forks for an up coming African Plains game hunt and can't find a thing as to where to start. Anyone here loaded any 300 Win Mag loads with the North Forks? I have looked at every post on the forum and can't find a recipe for the 300. Lot's of info on the 375 and 400's, but nothing on the lowly 300. By the way I will be shooting them from a T/C Encore with a 24" Bullberry custom barrel. Very close tolerances in the chamber.

Not specifically what you are asking but I have played with 165's in my 300 wby. When I got the bullets there was a tag saying that they might make more pressure than other bullets of the same wt but I didn't find that to be true. I do have a 300 win mag and have had great luck with H1000 and Re22 under 200 accubonds. I would start in the middle and work up to about 2900fps. If you get accuracy 50 fps on one side or the the other you would be plenty good to go. You may also contact the owner ofthe company for a "guess".....from what I hear he is very good to work with.

Devildawg: Go ahead & order your Northforks. There are instructions in the box on load development. While I don't have a .300, I do use their 225 gr. bullet in my .338 Mag. They are top performers in my book. On loading them, briefly what you do is work up an accurate load you like using another bullet manufacturer (Sierra?) and note the velocity. Once you have that load, you then load the Northforks at about a 7 -8% lower powder charge. Note that velocity then gradually increase the powder charge using the Northforks until you reach the velocity of your original load. That's it in a nutshell. I truly think you're gonna like the Northforks. I took a bull moose with the .338 this last season. Hit him behind the left front shoulder & found the bullet under the skin near the right rear quarter. When I shot he was angling towards me. The bullet weighs 218 grs. and is a perfect mushroom. You won't regret using them. Questions? Call Mike @ Northfork - a real good guy. Hope this helps some. Bear in Fairbanks Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes. I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have. Gun control means using two hands.

I hold in my hand a perfectly expanded 200 grain North Fork bullet I took from a Zebra which I shot with my 300 Winchester in Tanzania this year. I also shot an Impala, and a Wildebeest with the 200 North Fork. I used H 4350 powder and worked up from starting data provided by Hodgdon for the 200 grain partition bullet. My gun has a 25 inch bbl. and my final load developed closed to 2800 fps. You can get more speed from the slower powders but their max loads are compressed and in my gun were not as accurate. I don't think you can find a better bullet for African plains game than the 200 North Fork. Good luck with your hunt.
