Can 60 grains or heavier bullets be shot in .22-250? Gn: Ruger N 1 Which velocities can be reached? Nice patterns or key-holes? Any advices? Best regards, Fritz K.

My Tikka has 14" twist and is not happy with Hornady #2275 hollow points - keyholing! ------------------

Your replies had been very useful: I found a nice Number One in .22-250 at a gunseller last week. I liked it but had some hesitations about the caliber. My purpose for it should have been long distance shooting for capercailles and woodcocks, but the standard factory ammo is absolutely useless for that sort of hunting. There would be nothing left but some feathers after a shot. I hoped it would have been possible to load down to moderater velocities with heavier bullets, but as you tell me velocities still remain hotter than 3000 fps or the heavy bullets are key-holeing. I have better to order one in .223 or 243, which will better do the job - and also bring some steaks to my kitchen. Thanks! Fritz K.
