MnMark, the performance of these two cartridges is very similar. Both will push a 180. gr. bullet to 3400+fps. The Warbird headspaces on the shoulder and the Weatherby headspaces on the belt. Which cartridge is more accurate would depend on the particular rifle being tested. Because of the high velocitys and very heavy powder charges used in these two cartridges both are hard on barrels(see Saeeds test on the 30/378 and the 300 Pegasus in the reloading section). Over bore cartridges such as these usually suffer rapid throat erosion, this is one of the down sides to these superfast cartridges.

MnMark: Go with the Weatherby. It's a proven performer. I'm not knocking anything from Lazzroni, however Weatherby has been in the business for over half a century. In that time they have virtually written the book on high velocity cartridges. The .30-378 has been around for quite some time as a wildcat, and is well intrenched in the shooting world now as a factory cartridge. If you check balistics carefully, most of the Weatherby Magnums are still on top in the performance catagory. The .30-378 is the king of all .30 calibers, while the .338-378 is the hottest of all the .338 bores. Bill T.
