In my long-throated Sako 6.5X55 I was unable to reach the lands with 129 grain Hornadys but can easily hit them with 120 grain Barnes XLCs. It shoots them quite well, but does a bit better with 140s. I bet your 7 will like 'em too. I've shot the new TSXs in two rifles now (a .270 WSM and my .338). I didn't have to work very hard to find an accurate load for either rifle. My .338 will shoot three shots touching with 225 grain TSXs at 100 yards. I want to try the 130s in my 6.5, but don't have time before Africa. It shoots the XLCs well enough, and if it ain't broke don't fix it! Good luck.

I am working up loads for my CZ550FS, 7X57 mauser. This rifle will be primarily used for deer sized game, I think 140 and 150 grain bullets would be my best choice, but a 160 would be ok to. My concern is the long throat in this rifle. Using the 140 grain nosler B-tips and 139 grain Hrnady btsp ,I can't get any where close to the lands, but with the 160 grain accubonds, I can. Beacuse of the all copper construction the X bullets are a lot longer so I would like to hear yof your attempts with this cartridge and Barnes bullets. Preferably lighter, bullets. My first attempts will be with 140 grain tripple shock. ...tj3006

You can REALLY make a 7x57 cook with a long throated rifle and a can of H-414 and toss the reloading manual away, it no longer applies... I have been shooting long throated 7x57s for years in my Brnos and they shoot with the .280 and even beat some factory loads of the 7 Mag. on my chronograph.... One of the best deer bullets that I have used in the 7x57 is the Speer 130 gr. flat base bullet and at 2900 to 3100 FPS it works perfectly every time... I have also used the 130(?) GS HV bullet which is a monolithic like the Barnes and its a winner, I would even use it on elk without any concern what so ever. I have used the GS bullet a lot on various game...I shot a Kudu and a Eland with that GS bullet and in both instances the legs gave away and they slumped to the ground...and had an exit hole on both. Based on that the Barnes should work.

Well, Went outand bought a box of 140 grain Barnes TSXs. Impressive to look at ! would not want to be on the wrong side of one ! I was a little disapointed in that its only a smidjen longer than the NoslerB-tip. I seated one just barly in the case and it was in the landsdeep enough to pull the bullet out of the case. So I seated to the bottom of the first grove, and they function fine.that should give me enough bullet depth to grip it good. I loaded them three rounds each under a stiff charge of RL-19 and H-414. Will shoot tommorow rain or shine. ...tj3006

TSX looks prety good ! This was the first timeI fired this rifle, and all loads shot good enough, but I tried 2 loads with the 140 grain Barnes tsx. I fired 3 over 49.5 grs of H414 and got a group of 1.35. I think it will do better. I don't have great control over the set triggr yet, its gonn take some practice. The other load was RL-19 53.5 grains. I pulled one but the other 2 were just over 3/4s of an inch appart. I did not chrony either load but I probaly will next weekend. I think the H-414 is the powder I will work with. The RL 19 prety much filled the case. So I will try 50. grains of H-414 next. It did not seem to matter how closethe the lans I loaded. The most accurate load was with the Hornady 139 grain seated to the canalure, I am excited about the posibilities here a load in the 2900 fps area with lets say either a 140 grain tsx Hornadyor nosler accubond should b just te ticket for mule deer in eastern Oregon...tj3006
