I used jacketed pistol bullets in my 358 Winchester when I was breaking in the barrel. Of course I wasn't trying for accuracy then. Bob257

Thanks for all the help guys! This will give me a bit more direction. Hopefully this will allow more trigger time at both paper targets and small critters while saving a few $$$. Thanks, Big Iron

I use jacketed .357 pistol bullets all the time in my 35 Whelen Ackley Improved. I don't meter or weigh charges. I just use the Lee plastic measuring cups/scoops with IMR-4064 powder. I use this to fireform the 35 Whelen brass to the AI version. I also use it as an opportunity to practice offhand shooting at 25 and 50 yards at beer cans, bottles, etc. It is plenty accurate for plinking. I don't reset my scope. Obviously with using plastic scoops for measuring there is variation from cartridge to cartridge, but it doesn't seem to be enough to effect off-hand shooting accuracy. Garrett

One more question. Would the difference in bullet diameters have any affect on the bbl. If I understand things correctly the bullet dia. of the .35 Whelen is .358 and the .357 is well, .357 so would the smaller diameter bullet .001 allow gases to pass by the bullet and possibly cause excessive bbl wear? I understand the pressures and velocity are going to be very low but are the low enough to prevent damage?

Most ".357" bullets are .358, I use Oregon Trail cast bullets, 180gr flat points. A couple grain of bullseye will move it about 750-800 fps with about the same noise as a .22, great for popping coyotes close to the house. I also use 125 jacketed HP's and about 15 grs of blue dot for squirels, dont push them to fast or the will disenegrate (the squirels start breaking up at about 1500fps the bullet at about 2200fps)
