Does anyone have any good loads that they have developed with the 380 grain North Fork bullet in a .416 Rigby?

My rifle is a Ruger M77 that so far has been really accurate with a few 400 grain bullets (Hornady & Nosler).

Thanks.

Shumba,

Why yes, as a matter of fact I do.

I used the following in my Ruger .416 Rigby and this load my not be suited for your gun, so please start at least 10% lower.

1) Norma Brass.

2) Federal 'Gold Medal Match' Magnum large rifle primers.

3) North Fork 370 gr. bullets

4) H4831SC powder.

105.0 gr. with die set standard crimp.

102.5 gr. with 'LEE Factory Crimp Die', 1/2 turn. Velosity was clocked at 2500 FPS. This load is what I ended up taking to Tanzania.

I recovered one bullet that I put through the right scapula, through the cervical spine, recovered just under the skin over the left shoulder.

Outstanding bullet performance. I believe that the final weight of the bullet was something like 327 grains. The expanded area is just smaller that a .25 cent piece.

Group size will go 1/2" for 5 shots at 100 yards and using a scope that is on 4X.

I hope that you have as much luck with this bullet as I have. Mike Brady is an outstanding individual to work with and wants to hear from his shooters.

If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to mail me. JUST BE SURE TO PUT IN THE 'TOPIC' .416 RIGBY, or it may be over looked.

All the best,

SAM

HI,

BIG SAM, I would like to know how is the trajectory on the 380NF. Have you ever shoot out to 250 or 300 yards with these bullets and if so how did they open up?.I am wondering how the drop of fps would effect there performance. Thanks,Kev

KEV,

Sorry to say that I did not shoot this gun any longer than 100 yards while at the range.

It hit same point of aim and impact from 25 yards out to the 100 yard mark. I was pleseantly surprised.

Since I know this gun so well at these ranges, I most likely will shoot it at longer ranges before next time out, just to see what it does.

Mike Brady would be the one to answer your question of expansion at the different velosities. He has done this work.

I have had great luck with his bullets in the 416 Remington. I shot one Buffalo at 225 yards, one shot shattered spine and was under the skin in a perfect mushroom..He just tipped over frontwards and AJ called him the tea pot bull because he just tipped over....I shot another at 125 yards and and he ran about 150 yards and fell dead, shot in heart, bullet perfect mushroom after breaking one shoulder...I shot all the plainsgame including Eland with that load at various ranges up to 300 yards with the exact same results...I have all the bullets (8) I can send you an email photo of them if you like...I cannot post them on here, don't know how and too damn lazy to learn.

Probably one of the best bullets I have ever used...Phil Shoemaker, whom I book bear hunts with, recently submitted an artical for Rifle or Handloader magazine on this excellent bullet.
