If I even had to try to come up with that possibility, my powder pick would be H 1000 first with the case full and the bullet seated very long... I have hit 2950 with that combo with a 140 grain Sierra and RL 19 and RL 22, but I doubt the pressure was in that range... the loads were like 50 to 52 grains of RL 22 or so.... I think the velocity is do'able, but the pressure limits sure put a fence post in the way.... someone with quickload want to run it with a full load of H 1000 and RL 25, with an COAL of about 80 to 82 mms? My answer is strictly 'academic wild guess' at this point.... Neither load will blow up the rifle tho, that I can guarantee.... of course seafire's opinion and a dime will get you a 10cent cup of coffee if you can find a 10cent cup of coffee anymore... but cheers any way, eh? seafire

You need 67 grs of case capacity to get 3000 fps from a .264 bbl at 65,000 psi with a 140 gr bullet.

Hodgdon 870 is the nearest one to max pressure.

At 50,000 CUP, maybe. 50,000 PSI, no way. I haven't tested 140 grainers, but I get 3075 fps from 120 grainers at 59.4 KPSI, 24" bbl. Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good.

{Peter Pan: Thanks for posting the load data... I wasn't too far off on the H 1000 guess being about the best option..... Guess the next challenge is to just go out and try some results ( working up of course, for the trolls)... Not really sure why one would need 3000 Fps out of a 140 grain bullet, out of a 6.5 x 55.... Yet one time, I worked up a load that I can't remember now, as I did not see the application since it was kind of HOT! in a 260 with a 160 grain RN, but that chronographed 2 shots at 2850...I am sure that was into the 80K range for pressure..... Either H 1000 or H 4831 SC, would be two good challenges, with IMR 7828 a possible wild card... cheers seafire

Seafire, the whole secret behind 6.5x55 is the accuracy and long bullet, which can penetrate well enough for medium to big game. I have placed an order for Tikka Heavy bbl in 6.5x55 and am waiting. Great caliber.

Pete: That heavy barreled 6.5 x 55 sounds great! YOU must be on the east side of the pond then to be getting that as it would not be available on the west side of the pond here. I shoot a lot of 6.5 mm in several calibers.... I know it does a great job and I also use it for long long range target shooting and varmint shooting ( as I do in 6mm also).... I ahve a 6.5 x 57 with a heavy sporter barrel and 28 inches in length on a Model 70 Winchester action.... I bet if I played with that I can clear 3000 fps with a 140 grain match bullet.... I have chronographed loads of 140 grain Sierra SPs in my ruger 6.5 x 55,with RL 22 at 2950 fps with a 22 inch barrel... the load was hot, but the accuracy was great and the load blew a huge exit wound in a deer here on season.... The deer stumbled down a hill about 40 yds, but I think that was just because I shot it at a dead run as it was heading down hill.. Let us know when you get it! cheers seafire

The .264 Win. Mag. only beats 3000 with the 140 grain by a small margin (100-150 FPS) with SAFE pressures. If you need 3000 fps w/a 140-grainer in 6.5mm, I suggest the 6.5/284, the 6.5/'06, or the 6.5 Gibbs...... Of these, I'd refer the 6.5X284, since brass is available, AND ALL cartridges based on the .284, includiong the .284 itself, are superb rounds. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Seafire, I live in Ontario, so it is east, but north as well. I have ordered that Tikka in March, still coming from Finland. The reason I have order that caliber is long action of the rifle, detach mag if needed, long free bore and just like 6.5 cal. I would like to shoot this in some long range 300/600 yr competition with 139 Lapua Scenars, and for hunting 140 gr NPartitions, since no good bonded bullet selection. Greetings

Pete, I use to work for a Company based out of Kanata/Ottawa...Been thru most of Ontario quite a few times. Yeah I have never tried the 139 Scenars but those I have seen others try did one heck of a job... As some one who shoots a lot of 6.5 mm, You will find it is like the 338 calibers, as it is hard to find a bullet that will not perform well... especially a 140 grainer.....I have had great success with the cheap 140 grain Rem Corelokts. Good luck with it, it is a beautiful rifle! Cheers seafire

Originally born in Poland, left for North America in 1990. My first goal was US, but have not worked for me, so I settled in Canada which is a One beautiful country, run by donkies. I love all metric calibers, next on my agenda is 9.3x62 and then I would like to add to my collection a Manlicher in 7x57. I didn’t jump on the WSM wagon, and don’t see them advantages over ol’ good like: .30-06, 6.5x55, .22-250 Ever need place to stay in Ontario, welcome over to my place. Greetings

I think you said the magic word when you said "Scenars." I shoot all three of them in the 6.5x55. My rifle is just a sporter, a Remington Classic. It's been glass bedded and had the barrel floated. That's the extent of it, yet it will group the 108gr. Scenar into .53", the 123gr. Scenar into .485", and the 139gr. Scenar into .65" (5 shots at 100yds.). For all loads I use the affiliated VihtaVouri 550 and 560 powders. US made components fall a good ways behind except for Rel-19 which groups well with the Hornady 129gr. SP. Best wishes. Sorry to nit-pick, Cal, but Reloder 19 is manufactured in Sweden, and imported to the US. i don't think any powders are actually manufactured in the USA anymore. Just checked my recent bottles of H-4831 (Australia) and IMR-4350 (Canada- crikey!) I guess when better powders are made, us Yanks will import them. Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.
